the binnall report : 9.23.5

Things have rapidly fallen apart for the beloved Boston Red Sox, so we're pretty much at Code Red here in Boston. Ten games left and the pressure is on. There's not much else on the brain around here, cept for the usual esoteric madness. For those of you wondering and keeping score, I'm feeling better after developing a case of the funk last weekend. I think things will be improving from here on out, for a while at least.

I'll go out on a limb and say the last six weeks of Coast have been tepid at best, save for a few gems here and there. That said, we're kicking it old school with yet another edition of "the binnall report". Wanna throw out a little teaser for something special coming in a few weeks ... Hot Newz : The Movie. Yes, it's a celebration of a year of Hot Newz. That's around the corner, though. Right now, it's tbr.

The Week That Was

We left off last week with The Noor preparing an interesting Friday with Loren Coleman and Marshall Klarfeld stopping by. Sadly, Coleman, who was on to talk about the Loch Ness flesh DNA story, was barely on. I think he appeared for like 5 minutes total and pretty much debunked the story and left.

Meanwhile, my friend Marshall Klarfeld stayed the full first hour and it was a delight to hear from him again. Klarfeld was talking about a National Geographic story about genetically engineering humans for long term space flight. As usual, the passion of Klarfeld was evident as the discussion turned towards ancient astronauts. For those of you who enjoyed this brief Klarfeld visit, stop by binnallofamerica.com this weekend for BoA : Audio, where I'll be interviewing ... Marshall Klarfeld.

Worthy of note also was the return of Oscar, the open lines caller who is purportedly the Son of Satan. If Oscar is a plant, which he very well may be, he is an entertaining plant. It was smart of him to stay away for a while, as he sounded fresh for a change. I was amused, as always, with Noory's reaction to Oscar, either real or faked, because it was so cheesy.

Saturday Night Punnett featured Robert Trombley in the first half hour talking about the Oregon Bulge. Trombley was reassuring that the Bulge was safe and Ian sounded like he was hoping it would burst within minutes. The full episode guest, Simeon Hein, talking about Crop Circles was pretty good. I faded in and out of this one, as I was not feeling well all weekend.

Sunday, Art Bell finally managed to deliver the GIS folks. I didn't catch this, as I was full on in sickness at this point. I did listen to the first hour later on in the week, as I was interested in hearing Bell's take on Katrina. As expected, Bell had plenty to say, including having the guts to find the video of people shooting stray animals in NO and post it on the Coast website. Bell is still the master.

On Monday, The Noor pushed me over the brink with John Hogue to talk about prophecy. Of all the C2C prognosticators, Hogue is, by far, my least favorite. Something about him just annoys me. It could be his far too esoteric physical appearance, as he could charge money as a "Father Time lookalike". It could be that he is an expert in my least favorite Esoteric "forefather", Nostradamus. It might also be that he was C2C's "go to guy" for when the Pope died. Any of those four reasons is enough for me to toss Hogue in the "skip" pile. Sadly, I actually listened to some of it, but it was mostly babble.

I did catch Hoagland in the 1st hour talking about the NASA Moon Mission. Hearing him spin this odd turn of events was interesting as usual. The evolution in Hoagland on C2C in 2005 has been fascinating if nothing else.

Tuesday, TBA turned into David Sereda and he was on to talk about Physics and Spirituality. Sereda is an interesting cat. I particularly dug his stuff about "oneness" and the tangent he went on covering that. When he starting getting into the physics stuff, I was feeling in over my head as it was far too esoteric for me to really grasp. No Dan Aykroyd talk, unfortunately.

Wednesday saw yet another appearance from investigative mythologist William Henry. Will Henry has grown on me over the past few years. He brings an awe to the topic that is missing in a lot of C2C guests. Most of his stuff is odd little nuggets of information, some of it compelling, some of it laughable. I will say that Henry has carved out a niche on C2C and would almost qualify as "Steve Quayle-esque" if he made more 1 hour appearances.

Thursday, The Noor and C2C made history again with an experimental new style of episode that may best be called a "Jam Session". Breaking out 6 top notch C2C guests, giving them a half hour each, and talking about different topics altogether, this episode felt like "Open Mike Night" as the Cydonia Coffee House. Best episode of the week, best of the month perhaps.

Starting off with Mr. Absolutely himself Steve Quayle to talk about the aftermath of the hurricane. Good stuff from SQ, as usual. Howard Bloom then appeared to talk about the NASA Moon Mission. Bloom brought his usual down to earth approach to the topic, having an everyman quality that makes his stuff enjoyable. However, I think he was in over his head dealing with the occult laden NASA.

I missed the next two guests, Frosty Wooldridge and Don McAlveny, but I'll be catching their "bite sized" appearances later on tonight when I turn of The Noor's Open Lines. Wooldridge was on to talk about Illegal Immigration. I'm sure he brought the goods, as he's a solid guest. McAlveny appeared to talk about the housing bubble.

You know I caught the Alex Jones and Richard C. Hoagland hour. C2C magic if ever there was. AJ was on to talk about Katrina and the upcoming Rita. Total Jones madness here and awesome stuff from the NWO watchdog. Kudos to Noory for mentioning Tom Flocco, a Rense / AJ denizen who deserves a shot on the big stage. What's next, Sherman Skolnick ? (Oh God, I hope so.)

RCH was dubbed "clean up" guest by Noory in an awful sports analogy that made no sense. He tried to get Hoags to give him props for it, but RCH essentially no sold it. The big news of this Hoags appearance was that he was teasing a major blog post for the next day (today). It sounded like he was going to lay down some insane accusations against people and he said he had the closest thing to a "smoking gun". I heard him say that about Roswell two years ago, so I'm not holding my breath.

In total, an excellent episode. C2C Jam Session One was the surprise hit of the week and month so far.

The Week That Is

I won't lie to you. This week looks downright fugly. A lot of unknowns and some generally crappy looking stuff. But we trudge through, nonetheless.

We start with Open Lines and the Noor tonight. No word on the pop-in.

Saturday Night Punnett features Joel Barker to talk about the "paradigm shift". Purportedly, Barker is the one who coined the phrase "paradigm shift", meaning he may either be very "with it" or way past the point of relevancy.

Sunday is the other Bell hosted episode of the month, this time with Chip Proser to talk about Moon Colonization. He says Earth is dying and we need to move to the Moon. Bell could pull this one up to quality stuff, dark horse episode at best.

Monday, The Noor kicks me square in the gonads with Robert Felix, Ice Age Guy. Of all the C2C guests, for some odd reason, Felix is my all time least favorite guest. Less than even Phil Plait and Seth Shostak. With those two, I at least listen and scream obscenities at the radio. Don't get me wrong, Felix is a bright guy, but his theory is so mind bogglingly boring that I find myself yearning to lick paper rather than hear this episode. I will listen, though, to see if Felix can redeem himself this time around.

Tuesday, C2C rolls out Mark McCandlish to talk about odd technologies and UFOs. I've never heard of McCandlish, so I cannot endorse or crap on the episode. It could be good if McCandlish covers some unique stuff and has a dose of charisma.

Wednesday sees another potentially dreadful episode with Tim Bolen, health freedom fighter. No word yet on if he wears a cape. Alternative health episodes can be good or bad, depending on the guest. If it just degenerates into another "the pharmaceutical industry is screwing us" whine fest, I'll shake my fist in anger.

Best looking episode of the week comes on Thursday with Dr. Cliff Pickover, talking about "Borders of Science". At first I was all, "oh no", but after reading the episode description, I'm all, "You go, Dr. Cliff". Turns out, Pickover wrote some book called "Sex, Drugs, Einstein, and Elves". With a title like that, he's earned my 3 hours of listening time. Kudos and kudos again, sir. Apparently, he's all about fringe science, so he's perfect for Coast.

Friday, the usual. Noory takes calls, someone shows up in the first hour, etc.

binnall of america : audio, Season One

We start off with a bit of good news for those of you into the "podcast" thing. You'll be happy to know that BoA : Audio is now available as a podcast. For those of you uninitiated, it means that you can "subscribe" to BoA : Audio and receive the episodes each week, after they are posted, via a podcast feeder program. I use iTunes, as it is free. Information on the Podcast URL is available @ BoA now.

This Week : Marshall Klarfeld, author of "Adam: The Missing Link". I was blown away by Marshall's appearance on C2C this past Summer and knew he would be a perfect guest for the inaugural season of BoA. He was kind enough to partake in my request and the result of will arrive to you on Saturday @ BoA, where we'll be talking about ancient astronauts, the different forms of evidence for their presence in early mankind's history, the work of Sitchen, religion and ancient ETs, evolution v. creationism, and a host of other topics in a similar vein. His website is adamthemissinglink.com.

Next Week : Terry Hanson, author of "Missing Times". We'll be talking about UFOs and the Media. I am a huge fan of Hanson's book, so it was a genuine treat to interview him. We cover his book extensively and look at the Media and UFOs from a few different angles. His website is themissingtimes.com.

Big thanks to everyone who has checked out the audio so far. I'm happy to say that many websites ran links to the Jim Marrs Season Premiere, so the ball is rolling as we deliver more quality goods in the weeks to come. If you haven't checked out BoA: Audio yet, what's your problem ?

Letter # 1 :

Tim,

Anyone you want to see more of on Coast ?

Terry in San Francisco

More Jordan Maxwell. Hands down. He only got like 2 hours earlier this year and one appearance last year. I would like to see 3 to 4 appearances per year from the Godfather of Esoterica.

Letter # 2 :

binnal,

Tell me you don't like Dr. Turi ?

Phil in Raleigh, NC

Sorry to disappoint you, Phil, but Dr. Turi is my new favorite C2C prognosticator. What I really enjoy about him is that he manages to get some stuff right, driving the C2C skeptics completely bonkers. Noory's fawning over him just fans the flames and makes me laugh even more.

Do I think he's legit ? I've no clue. I will give credit where credit is due and say he may have scored the best C2C prediction ever with his Katrina prediction. That was one for the books and left all other C2C prognosticators looking foolish as usual.

This Week in C2C History

9.23.2004 : My then-favorite C2C prognosticator, Fr. Andrew Wingate, appeared to bring more tidings of doom and gloom to the Noor and the rest of us. Shades of his Pope prediction here : "He foresees four major upcoming acts of terrorism, with two events to occur in the U.S. before the elections" (C2C main page).

9.23.1999 : Apparently the Mars Orbiter broke down or something and it was huge news on Coast : "Art reads a story on the disappearance of the orbiter just as it reached Mars. Art reminds us that Ed Dames predicted that this would occur." (artbell.com cd rom)

So huge was the news that it prompted an RCH pop-in, a much rarer occurrence back then. Hoagland was all about the conspiracy, which Bell was not, showing that their disagreements have been long term. Also, Hoagland was apparently talking about his infamous movie 6 years ago as well ... "Richard tells Art that he has been working on a major motion picture with Paul David, who he is staying with in California, about the face on Mars, and the script has been sent to a major player in the film industry." (artbell.com cd rom). Wow, that's a long time for a movie to get made.

9.23.1998 : From the "isn't it ironic" department : "Georges.... This hurricane has now killed 110 people. South Florida has declared a state of emergency." (artbell.com cd rom). Also this surely amusing tidbit occurred : "Injury.... Art hurt himself again when he had an argument with an antenna." (artbell.com cd rom)

End Notes

Fall, my second favorite season, is underway. I'll be playing in the leaves this weekend and then I'll be apple picking. Not really, but I can dream. Meanwhile, it's never too early to start thinking of Halloween. Start cultivating your Friedman beard now, kids.

Plugs : Tomorrow, prime time, Marshall Klarfeld steps into the BoA : Audio zone with an in-depth discussion of the ancient astronaut theory. Saturday, late night, it's SNP. Sunday, smoker dave. Monday, News Watch. Tuesday, Lesley's Grey Matters. Wednesday, Khyron's ghost files. Thursday, Hot Newz, perhaps with an Autumn twist. Friday, we do it all again.

And we wrap it up just in time to catch tonight's Red Sox game. Hopefully they can stop the bleeding and regain form after a dreadful week. And hopefully you, my dear readers, will have an excellent weekend as well. Fare thee well, friends, I'll be around.
