I'm sort of half out of it this week, as my beloved Boston Red Sox are in the midst of a double header against the hated Yankees. So far, it's getting ugly for the Sox, but never say never, my friends.
This week, we look back at a lackluster week of Coast to Coast, highlighted by the mysterious Simon on "Ian" and a pop-in from Robert Bigelow. We look ahead to a barren week with little announced, except an episode about soy. We dip into the mailbag to find out about the fate of BoA's Viral Esoterica. We delve into C2C History with two separate Richard Hoagland adventures. And, of course, we find out more future books by George Noory in Hot Newz.
Without any further delay, let's rock it out.
The Week That Was
When I left you last week, The Noor took the night off and our old friend Ian Punnett hosted the Friday into Saturday Open Lines. The 1st hour pop-in was Andrew Colarik, talking about national security issues. The rest of the show was Open Lines, including a call from JC, who gave a glowing endorsement to Ian and had a hilarious reply for Ian's question as to why he called the "first time caller line". Great rant from JC about Dr.Demento, toddlers and cheerios, Ross Mitchell, and how Noory has corrupted Ian.
Saturday, on "Ian", IP welcomed the infamous "Simon" to talk about the necronomicon. All the hype about Ian was quite true, as he put together an outstanding episode here, helped by the ultra mysterious Simon, who used a voice distorter to give it an extra air of bizarre intrigue. Ian knew his stuff going into the interview and asked all the right questions and focusing on a lot of moral paradoxes to Simon's story. Interesting side discussion on whether or not Simon is Peter Lavenda, as well. Excellent episode and it seems like Ian is really "in the zone" right now.
I skipped out on Saturday night's C2C proper, where Art Bell interviewed Neal Adams on the expanding planet theory. We'll turn it over to Lesley's C2C Rewind for her take on the episode, "Art apparently just became aware of Morgellons disease, is he behind on stuff or what? His guest was one time comic book guy turned theoretical physicist, Neal Adams. No, Adams doesn't have any science background, but he does have a theory that the earth is growing. Make of that what you will."
Sunday night on C2C, Art had the infamous Robert Bigelow on in the first hour to talk about his new aerospace venture. Interesting stuff and it sounded like Art and Bigelow were good friends. Sadly, no talk of the notorious NIDS ranch.
The full show guest was Sir Charles Shults, who talked about nanotechnology, for the most part. Despite high hopes for this episode, it didn't make it into my rotation, so I didn't get a chance to catch it all. Surely strong stuff, considering the past appearances by Shults.
Monday saw the Noor welcome Jonathan Zap to the show, with the topic being "mind parasites". Zap also had Alex Grey on during the show to help bolster his stuff on mind parasites. I caught bits and pieces of this and just wasn't impressed. A lot of it reeked of stuff gleaned from acid trips and other misadventures. Grey even once quipped something like, "Adam and Eve were really the first drug bust." That really had me rolling my eyes.
That said, there seemed to be some good buzz on the episode and a groundswell of positive post-episode comments, so I may have tuned out too early in the show. Given that, I may go back and check it out if I have time in the near future.
Tuesday, the TBA turned into Glenn Kimball. Kimball covered a lot of ground, including Jesus being a stonemason and going to America, a Bosnian pyramid, and other weird stuff. Good discussion of ancient materials, but it didn't really seem to have one thread carrying the whole episode. A bit too scattershot for my tastes, but good for what felt like a thrown together episode.
Wednesday, the guest was Tom Horn, talking about stargates, hybrids, and abductions. Meh. I only caught bits and pieces of this one and wasn't too thrilled. I tuned out rather early, because it just wasn't doing it for me. Sorry for not having much on this one.
Thursday had Bart Kosko as the guest with the topic being "noise". I thought this was going to be awful, but it turned out to be excellent. Great discussion of the science of noise, an ephemeral topic, but one that had a lot of meat to it. Noory asked some generic questions that had me laughing at him, but otherwise he brought out a lot of good material here with Kosko. Sadly, they went to phone lines early and we were forced to endure an extra half hour of "enlightenment" from C2C callers. Ugh. Good to great episode, but there wasn't as much depth as I'd have liked.
Middle of the road week that peaked with Simon and Robert Bigelow and never quite got back to that level. The week's guests, aside from Kosko, just didn't seem to get out of the starting blocks.
The Week That Is
The Noor returns to his weekly habit of Friday into Saturday Open Lines. No word on the pop-in quite yet.
Saturday on "Ian", all the props he's been getting here in "the binnall report" lately must have gotten to Ian, as he's got a real zinger of a guest on tap. Kaayla Daniel will be on to talk about soy and the anti-soy agenda. Sigh. A classic "Ian" episode, fringe C2C material that sounds like utter garbage that ends up being a top notch episode. Ian's got more guts than sense with this week's guest, but I have a feeling he'll put together another solid episode.
Saturday night, Art Bell welcomes Joshua Warren to discuss "non human apparitions", which means we'll be hearing about dead cats and what-have-you. Could be good, but I have a sinking suspicion that it will turn out to be bowling shoe ugly. Warren will also be talking about UFO hoax contest he ran, which makes me want to kick him in the grundel.
Sunday night on Coast, Art will have Freddy Silva on the show to give us the run down on crop circles. I don't know much about Silva, but thankfully he made an appearance last year and here's what I said about him then, "I went into the week in a sour mood, not looking forward to the first two night's guests. I was pleasantly surprised on Monday when The Noor had Freddy Silva on to talk about Crop Circles. For the first hour of the interview, I was sure it was Lionel Fanthorpe, but now I'm pretty sure they are different people. Silva wasn't as ephemeral as I'd feared and actually had some pretty interesting stuff going on the episode.
I do, however, take issue with Silva's insane story of crop circle healing water. I'm not sure how responsible that is to suggest that you can heal yourself by putting a picture of a crop circle on top of a glass of water and then drinking said water. It seemed rather dangerous to put that idea out there to an at-times gullible audience So his voice sounds like Lionel Fanthorpe. He's got halfway decent stuff, but seems to think water can be affected by pictures of crop circles.
As of this writing, C2C hasn't posted the line up for the rest of the week. I can't wait around for them to do so, so we'll have to go into next week blind.

Letter #1
binnall,
what happened to Viral Esoterica ?
Bruce in St. Paul, Minnesota Thanks for asking, Bruce. When it first started, Viral Esoterica had a lot of promise, but it turned out as the Summer rolled along that I didn't have as much time as I'd thought to devote to finding good esoteric videos on the 'net. VE still exists, but it is now billed as "sporadic" instead of "monthly". I suspect we'll see a Summer edition of VE in the not too distant future.
Letter #2 :
Tim,
When will we be hearing more about BoA : Audio, Season Two ?
Kevin in Seattle, Washington Soon, Kevin, soon. We're hard at work on the production phase of BoA : Audio, S2. We're also hard at work on the promotion stage and expect the first trickling of buzz and hype to come out of BoA by the end of the month.
So far, the upcoming season is looking pretty damn good. We've already got some top notch guests either taped or lined up for tapings in the near future. Stay tuned to BoA and this column for updates on the new season of audio.

This Week in C2C History
8.20.2005 : Biscardigate reached it's glorious crescendo, as Tom Biscardi showed on C2C to claim he'd captured Bigfoot. Following that, all hell broke loose. Relive the hilarity @ BoA with Biscardigate : In-Depth. Winner of 2005's Coastie for The Coaster (Most Embarassing Moment).
8.18.2004 : This year saw Hoagland's summer adventure being wrapped up in the mysterious case of the missing Dr. Formisano. Earlier in the Summer, he'd claimed that Formisano would be announcing life on Mars, "soon". After he didn't, then stopped returning calls, a conspiracy theory was borne. I'm pretty sure nothing ever came of it, but Hoags stuck to his guns until we all forgot about it, "Hoagland believes that Formisano still plans to declare there is life on Mars at a conference in Italy next month" (c2c.com)
8.18.2003 : Three years ago today marked the start of a new and beautiful friendship, as Noory interviewed R. Gary Patterson for the very first time. RGP would go on to become a C2C fixture over the next few years and could be counted on for a strong episode every time out of the gate. For this episode, RGP went over his main staple, the "Paul is Dead" theory. Great stuff.
8.18.1999 : Call it "Cavegate". Art Bell and, who else but, Richard C. Hoagland spend the night tracking some story of a NASA scientist holed up in a cave, hiding from a meteor. Seriously. It all began with, "Art reads a 'purported' AP article about a man hiding in a cave who was a NASA computer programmer trying to avoid a meteor he said was going to hit the Atlantic ocean." And then ... "Richard Hoagland joins Art this hour and discusses the 'man hiding a cave' story at the top of the hour."
Culminating with, "Richard talks about the man in the cave having 16 guns in his car and whether he didn't 'trip over something' at NASA. At the bottom of the hour, Lloyd Albright, the man in the cave, calls Art to discuss his experience. " (artbell.com cd rom) Oh Christ, this one sounds like an all time classic.
End Notes
Finishing up just in time to do the Friday chores before Game 2 of the Red Sox v. Yankees double header. It's a hell of a day here in Boston, you could cut the electricity with a knife and it's quite a feeling.
Plugs : Tomorrow @ binnallofamerica.com, Joe Vee's Wrath of Joe : Summer Series continues, with a discussion of the book "From the Ashes of Angels". Sunday, it's Lesley's C2C Rewind @ The Debris Field and smoker dave updated. Monday, Trickster's Realm. Tuesday, Grey Matters. Wednesday, Khyron takes the week off, so we'll have general BoA updates and perhaps July's Coastie Contenders. Thursday, Hot Newz. And, Friday, it's the binnall report, one more time.
binnallofamerica.com ... have it your way @ BoA.
With that, we call it a week. I hope you all have an excellent weekend and have a chance to dig into the dog days of Summer. Until you hear from me again, this is binnall ... signing off.
