4.27.7

For the second week in a row, we're coming at you very late at night on Friday. The reason, much like last week, is that we've been busy watching the Red Sox whomp on the Yankees. We have priorities here, and enjoying the hated Yankees getting smooshed is at the top of the list. But unlike some of the past few weeks, my spirits are lifted, so I'm giving out lots of kudos in this week's binnall report.

Starting with a look back at an excellent week of Coast to Coast AM, featuring superstars, theme episodes, silly questions from Noory, and a muzak paradigm shift a long time coming. We look ahead to next week's C2C guests, including another potential gem on "Ian" and two strong on-paper UFO episodes. I'll preview tomorrow's BoA : Audio featuring Dr. Michael Salla. We'll dig into the Coast to Coast AM vault and talk about Steve Wozniak and pet eugenics. And, of course, we'll wrap it all up with a startling new find in our search for the origins of Ian Punnett in Hot Newz.

It's an esoteric soup that you eat with a fork, so dig in.

The Week That Was

When this column concluded last week, we posted it just as Friday night's episode began. Art Bell was the guest host, the 1st hour pop-in was Evelyn Paglini and she was on to talk about her school shooting prediction. Normally, I can handle a doom and gloom guest, but Pags scared the crap out of me. She reminded me of that Trading Spouses lady, only a little less crazy and more esoteric.

Seriously, though, her voice and her predictions of more shootings gave me chills. At times, they sounded more like threats than warnings, mostly because of her shrill voice and the dire nature of what may be on the horizon. I also liked how Pags talked about how frustrating it is to get snippets of information psychically, but end up unable to put it all together in time. I rarely can understand a psychic on Coast, but she described it better than I'd ever heard. Very good pop-in.

Art Bell Open Lines followed, with the theme of trying to figure out why weird things like school shootings have begun to happen here on Earth. Despite my anti-OL stance, I listened to this one and it was pretty good. Bell is still the master of Open Lines.

Saturday on "Ian", IP's guest was Charles Lindbergh Jr., claiming to be the infamous Lindbergh baby, which mainstream history says was kidnapped and killed back in the 1920's or so. Originally, I'd missed this episode, but the ultra strong buzz on it @ theusofe.com made me go back and listen to this one during the week. And, it easily lived up to the hype. Punnett, you magnificent bastard, you've done it again.

Very interesting material, as Lindbergh managed to make a pretty good case for himself, despite coming into the interview with the deck stacked high against him. His personal anecdotes and DNA evidence were very intriguing and Ian was a vertiable esoteric radio maestro, guiding the interview when it looked to be going astray. One of those very few Coast to Coast episodes, with a certain air about it, where you think, "damn, this guy may be legit". Excellent episode.

Saturday night on C2C proper, Art Bell had Dr. Janna Levin on the show to discuss cosmology. Meh. (Which is precisely what I said last week). I missed this one, but thankfully Lesley tuned into a bit of it and gave us some impressions of the proceedings in this week's C2C Rewind : "I didn't listen to a whole lot of this show, but I did catch parts that sounded pretty interesting and I listened enough to know that Dr. Levin was not a big believer in ufos and aliens."

Sunday night, Stanley Alpert was the guest and he was on to talk about the time he was kidnapped. This one kind of missed with me, as there was a lot of back story and side discussion in the hour or so before they dove right into the kidnapping story. And I ended up zoning out before things got good. The C2C recap includes this gem, "In another unusual twist, prostitutes were visiting the apartment, and one of them was offered to him as a favor, though he declined." So it sounds like it picked up after the drab beginning. One worth going back for.

Monday night, The Noor returned from his three day weekend and the guest was Loren Coleman. Sadly, The Noor did not ask Coleman about the VT shootings, despite my threats of a lashing in this week's tbr. They were empty threats, anyway, as I'm more disappointed than angry. I just think the ball was dropped, big time, on this one, pending some other, substantial, reason why the event was not brought up.

Despite this quibble, I thought the episode was excellent. Not a strictly cryptozoology based episode, instead it focused on Coleman's reissue of the seminal "Mysterious America" and all the esoteric goodness contained therein. It was deja vu all over again in the first segment, when Coleman was talking about the Bridgewater Triangle, as I've been doing some heavy research on that lately. From there, he just hit on all sorts of areas of esoteric intrigue, including the Dover Demon, the Phantom Clown phenomenon, something called the Enema Bandit, and, of course, dogged a few Noory bombs along the way. Another excellent episode.

Noory made me smile when he asked Coleman, "What is the difference between an alligator and a crocodile ?" I honestly can't besmirch Noory for this one, because I can see myself asking the same question, but when you take a look at it from afar, it's fugly.

Tuesday night was a strange affair as the ostensible guest was Dr. Robin Falkov, Richard C. Hoagland's special lady friend and alternative medicine guru. It ended up turning into an alt. medicine panel, featuring Richard Clement, Peter Barry Chowka, and Burton Goldberg. This sort of thing happened last time Falkov was the guest and it drew some critical acclaim in some quarters, so I'll give props for keeping the tradition going.

Being that I'm not a fan of alternative medicine episodes, I gave this one a brief chance and when I tuned in, Noory and Falkov were chuckling about Hoagland's post-heart attack antics. I couldn't help but smile, myself, seeing Hoags manage to find a way into the episode, in spirit at least. No word on if he phoned in or not. I tuned out after that, so I can't judge the episode on content, really. If you dig alternative medicine episodes, you would have liked this one, as it had a variety of voices and experts.

Wednesday, Noory's guest was Richard Lawrence. I completely missed this one. I can't help it, I tell you. As Lost gets more complex, each week, heading towards the season finale, my brain is completely fried when Noory Time arrives. No buzz on this one yet.

Thursday, the children in the streets rejoiced as TBA turned into "The Father of Modern Day Ufology" Stanton Friedman for a full show appearance. It got scary for a moment and could have gotten quite ugly as Noory said they'd do a straight first hour interview and then two hours of callers for Friedman (yikes), but it ended up turning out much better than it had any right to be. Whomever was screening the calls for this episode earned their paycheck, as they were all, for the most part, good. Friedman's response to the callers was very interesting and it gave you a real glimpse into what it must be like to be Stanton Friedman at a conference as people pester you with queries. Good episode, made great by the unorthodox caller move, which improved the episode, shockingly enough.

Looking back over it all, I'd say it was a great week of C2C, one of the better ones in quite some time. Helped by having two A-list superstar guests (Coleman and Friedman) it also had two very intriguing stories (Lindbergh and Alpert), a strong theme episode (Falkov), and two episodes I missed but were probably good (Sat. and Wed.) Kudos to the mysterious "powers that be" @ Coast on a job well done this week.

Additional kudos to Coast to Coast for finally, after two years, changing the muzak they play in place of ad breaks on Streamlink. For the last two years we've heard the same two minutes of music, a holiday sounding jingle that slowly turned into hot garbage around the 8th month of hearing it ten times a night. On Tuesday night, I noticed that the music had changed and I almost started crying out of sheer joy. Thank you, thank you, thank you to whomever changed that god damned song. Now please, for the love of Noory, don't wait another two years to do it again.

The Week That Is

We kick things off with The Noor returning to Friday night Open Lines after taking last week off. Hopefully that won't make the evening's festivities too wacky. I'm still hoping for a JC call, since it's been a while since he's graced us with his presence. The pop-in is Jeffrey Seelman to discuss psychic attacks.

On the Saturday early show, Ian scores another alternative history coup as Saint John Hunt, son of E. Howard Hunt, joins the program to talk about his infamous father. He's going to claim that his dad had "direct knowledge of the JFK assassination". Sounds explosive and right in Ian's wheel house. Five star episode, on-paper.

It feels like Groundhog Day, as on Saturday night's C2C proper, Art Bell interviews Sean Carroll about cosmology and new science. I'm sure this is a kick ass episode for the alternative science buffs, but it's out of my realm of interest, really. I'll tune in for about an hour, but me thinks it will lull me into sleep.

It's all good, though, as Sunday's episode is more heavy on the esoteric blend. Ryan Wood is the guest and the topic is UFO crashes. Wood knows his UFO crashes and I'm sure he'll dazzle Art with his best cases. Ryan comes across as a little dry at times, but his material is always strong and I'm hopeful that Art can bring him out of his shell a little bit. Should be good, could be great.

Monday night, Noory goes Hollywood as his 1st hour guest will be TV's Pamela Anderson and they'll be talking about her voluminous ... love of animals. (What did you think I was going to say?). They'll have someone else from PETA on, too, but we'll all be paying attention to Pamela, let's be honest. Cross your fingers and hope for a Noory / Pam love connection.

For the full show interview, Andrew Collins to the show. Collins will tell us about cosmic rays shaping evolution here on Earth. Yikes. I'm not sure what to make of that. It could be boring as all get out or it could be wickedly weird and entertaining. Depends on the goods he brings to the table and how much charisma he's got.

Tuesday night, Dr. Michael Salla follows up his BoA : Audio appearance from this weekend by appearing on C2C. Strangely enough, he'll be talking about ETs living on Earth, which is nothing like what we talked about in our conversation. Seriously, it's bizarre, it's like two different people or something. Despite the sensational nature of the material, it sounds very interesting. I'm just glad BoA scheduled Salla for Saturday, so we wouldn't be playing 2nd to this interview, which would have peeved my cheeks to no end. Should be a good episode and an interesting companion to the BoA interview.

Wednesday sees Jan Hodges as the guest with the topic being future technology. Mixed bag here, as the topic sounds mildly interesting, but the quality depends on where they go with it all. I'm afraid this one may fall victim to the post-Lost haze that usually hits me on Wednesday night.

No word on the Thursday guest. It's been two years since Jordan Maxwell appeared on Coast, he's well overdue. That said, I wouldn't be surprised by, nor upset by, a Steve Quayle appearance, as he's been MIA for far too long as well.

It's a pretty decent week ahead, propped up by Saint John Hunt on "Ian", Ryan Wood with Bell, and Michael Salla with Noory. Depending on how the other episodes fare, this could be a pretty strong week.

BoA : Audio, Season Two

This week : Dr. Michael Salla, "Exopolitics"

Michael Salla returns to BoA : Audio for a full length interview to discuss Exopolitics. We'll be talking about the goals of Exopolitics, it's tenuous relationship with Ufology, and Salla responds to some of the critics of the movement. We also discuss 911, the Symington Phoenix Lights story, the recent release of French UFO documents (and Salla's surprising response) and tons more.

His website is www.exopolitics.org

Next week : Kent Daniel Bentkowski, The Kentroversy Papers

Internet conspiracy pundit Kent Daniel Bentkowski is our guest as we delve into a number of shadowy realms of esoterica. KDB tells us about Hilary Clinton being pre-ordained to be President and discusses the '08 election, the microchip and global agendas, false flag terror attacks, and an extended discussion on esoteric messages found in popular films like "A Bug's Life", "Breakfast Club", "They Live", and others. A long awaited conspiracy themed edition of BoA : Audio.

This Week in C2C History

4.30.2006 : Perhaps the best guest hosted episode of C2C ever. Kevin Mitnick was the host, Steve Wozniak was the guest, and a classic episode was the end result, "Wozniak is an A-list guest for his field and this was a stellar episode and will receive a Coastie nomination, for sure, later this month. Mitnick did a good job and just may have gone to the binnall school of esoteric radio, as he knew enough to just ask Wozniak a question and then get the hell out of the way while the Woz spun his straw into gold. And gold it was, as Wozniak held court and enveloped even this previously skeptical listener. Great stuff, easily best of the week." (tbr, 5.5.2006)

4.27.2005 : Hoagland being Hoagland, "First hour guest Richard C. Hoagland of Enterprise Mission discussed the latest findings about Titan's atmosphere. NASA is not revealing the composition of the molecules, he said, which has led him to suspect that they may have found the "signature" of the life process on Titan, but are holding back from an announcement. " (c2c.com)

4.27.2004 : Pet eugenics with a 1st hour guest who ran a pet cloning business, "Lou Hawthorne of Genetic Savings and Clone discussed his company's service, which claims they can clone your favorite pet (for $50,000). He said that cloning may be appropriate when an animal is extraordinary and there could be a genetic basis for continuing its bloodline." (c2c.com)
