What an absolutely insane week. I think it may have been the culmination of all those past weeks where I kvetch here in the beginning of the report. For starters, on Sunday, I went on a veryhairy road trip, to be discussed at a later date. From there, I got home to find that the official BoA main computer had totally crashed on me. Luckily we salvaged our vast archive of material before it all went down.
So we had to move the whole operation to a makeshift laptop while the desktop gets fixed. But that had to wait, because a slightly major project I've been working on happened to have a deadline of this week (details on that should be released soon). Throw in the five guest festivus that is the BoA : Audio Baseball special, which will have to be wholly produced for the first time ever on the laptop with new software. Additionally, two of the interviews that had to be recorded on Tuesday. Add in pressing family concerns and you've got a maestrom of crap going on here @ BoA HQ.
As you'll see when we progress to the first stage of the report, I completely shut out C2C while I concentrated on business at hand this past week. But we'll look ahead to next week's offerings, including the Coast return of Ed Dames and a wild guest for Thursday. We'll have an extended preview of the BoA : Audio Baseball Special, I'll preview my 2nd ever interview coming this Sunday on Radio Misterioso, the mail bag will reveal the origins of "clown shoe", we'll dig into the C2C vault to remember the Great Velikovsky Debate, and, of course, we'll continue our annual tradition with the official picture of the 2007 C2C Softball Team in Hot Newz.
Thank God it's Friday. This is the binnall report, as always ...
The Week That Wasn't
For the first time in so, so long ago, I actually missed all of Coast to Coast AM. Nary a Noory moment reached my ears. No Bell nor Ian. I was completely Coast-less.
Since I literally didn't listen to a minute of the show, we won't bother faking it here in the recap. Now that I'm slowly getting plugged back into the scene, maybe I'll mention the highlights of this past week next week in this space.
The Week That Is
Noory kicks off the weekend tonight with Friday into Saturday Open Lines. The first hour will be must-hear material, as former Arizona govenor Fife Symington will show his face to discuss the big "news story" that he also saw the Phoenix Lights ten years ago. It will be very interesting to hear how Noory handles this one. I'm kind of nervous that it will serve as the unofficial kick off to softball season, if you catch my drift.
Following Fife will be James Fox, maker of the movie "Out of the Blue", that features the big revelation from Symington. This whole story continues to stink of publicity stunt. Last week I was specifically told by sources close to the story, that Symington would not be doing any interviews until after "Out of the Blue" was released. Now he's appearing on Coast with the makers of the film. Something's rotten in the state of Arizona.
Saturday on "Ian", Frosty Wooldridge is the guest and the topic is immigration. Ian tackling a current political hot potato ... sounds like fun. Wooldridge knows his stuff, so his material ought to be strong. Should be a good one.
Saturday night on C2C proper, Art Bell has the C2C return of Evelyn Paglini. It's been shockingly over a year since Pags has been on the show, so I expect good things here. Evelyn and Art usually have some fun chemistry and, if worse comes to worse, I can always shut my eyes and pretend its Sylvia Browne.
The C2C stalwarts continue to worm their way out of the woodwork on Sunday as Ed Dames makes his first appearnce of 2007. Dames will look ahead and tell us what will happen in his version of the future. You know what you'll get here.
Monday night, we're back in Noory country and he'll have William Buhlman as the guest to discuss Out of Body Experiences. Should be decent, as OBEs are one of Noory's favorite things.
Tuesday, The Noor welcomes Joe Bullard to talk about Coral Castle. Nice to see a specialized guest on the topic and not just someone how slightly looks into it. It will be interesting to see if Hoagland calls in, since he seems to be in love with the CC.
This week sees the return of Wildcard Wednesday. Please, God, make TBA turn into Jordan Maxwell.
The formal week wraps up on Thursday with Dr. Frank Stranges in what is sure to be one of the zanier episodes of the year. Stranges will tell us about his meeting with a being from Venus at the Pentagon ... seriously. Plus North Pole alien bases. Damn, where do I sign up ? If it lives up to a fraction of its potential, this should be the best of the week.
BoA : Audio, Season Two
This week : BoA : Audio, Baseball Special
This Saturday, BoA : Audio will go where no esoteric radio program dares to dwell : the baseball diamond. Yes, it's a daring experiment attempting to marry esoterica with baseball, drawing from previous BoA : Audio episodes and featuring the return of three former guests for all new short cut interviews. It's the BoA : Audio, Baseball Special.
It will be a veritable All Star Show as we cull from our archives classic BoA : Audio clips of Stanton Friedman discussing steroids in basesball and how it reflects his displeasure with some aspects of Ufology. We'll also go back in time to our interview with cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, who told us about his work with Major League Baseball dealing with suicide clusters amongst retired big league ball players.
But it's not a clip show, dammit, as we've got ultra fresh, new interviews with returning BoA : Audio favorites.
Adam Gorightly stops by to tell us about Doc Ellis's LSD infused no hitter from the 1970's. He discusses being a Giants fan in the Barry Bonds era and tries to goade Greg Bishop into a Giants v. Dodgers battle by discussing the infamous MK-Ultra / Dodgers story that made the rounds in esoterica a while back. We also find out what Adam's been up to since his BoA : Audio appearance.
Paul Kimball is up next and we'll talk about his March of 2005 blog post where he proclaimed that Ufology would someday have it's "2004 Red Sox moment" (i.e. the big payoff to years of suffering). He explains his rationalization from then and also whether or not he's changed his mind since. He also talks about the "come down" from the Red Sox championship and ties it into the potential fall-out within Ufology should that breakthrough ever come about. Kimball then goes on to talk about why he loves the older generation of the Red Sox, he hilariously gripes about modern day changes to the game like interleague play, and in general bemoans the state of baseball, nearly making binnall cry. We also find out what Kimball's been up to since he appeared early in the season on BoA : Audio and lay the groundwork for a future special episode to co-incide with his big cable special in May.
And, finally, one of the BoA : Audio pioneers, Greg Bishop, makes his long awaited return to the show. We start out by recounting how he ended up on BoA : Audio in the first place, back when we first started doing interviews. He then discusses why he thinks Ufology will never have that breakthrough "Red Sox Championship" moment, taking the counterpoint to Kimball's original thesis. We also talk about the X-Files episode revolving around Roswell and baseball, which segues into a discussion on why there are so few, if any, prominent black researchers in Ufology. From there we discuss the LA Dodgers and how they are his de facto home town team. He also gives his take on Gorightly's MK-Ultra angle from earlier in the show. Wrapping it up, he updates us on what he's been up to since he appeared on BoA : Audio so long ago.
The three returning guests bring a fun chemistry to the show, as it was more like a reunion than an interview. We started out with the idea of tying baseball into esoterica and that experiment wrought us this episode, which may turn out to be one of the more lighthearted but enlightening episodes of the BoA : Audio season. Play ball !
There's plenty of esoteric talk for the non-baseball fans and just enough baseball discussion to merit the swank title of "Baseball Special".
Next Two Weeks : BoA : Audio spring break. The show will resume on 4.21.2007.
binnall speaks ... again !
This Sunday, 4.1.2007, I will be the guest on Greg Bishop's Radio Misterioso from 11 PM to 1 AM (Eastern Time) / 8 PM to 10 PM (Pacific).
It will be my 2nd ever interview. It will also be my first live interview and we'll also be taking callers in the 2nd hour.
www.killradio.org is the website for the show. Just go there on Sunday @ the appropriate time and you ought to be able to hear the show. MP3s will be available of the interview a few weeks, or so, after it airs.
So tune in, call in, and close out April Fool's Day with the clown prince of esoterica, binnall.

Hi - that S.D.M. toilet paper was priceless! Even the INITIALS are funny!
George's "back door" references were cracking me up - us, and probably about a million other folks... but it made me laugh all over again when I saw you mentioned it. He comes up with never-ending double-entendres without fail - and I know he doesn't even realize what the heck he is saying when he says it! So that makes it exponentially funny.
And...:"clown shoe"?? "CLOWN SHOE" ?!?! THAT was the funniest phrase I've read so far this year. Anywhere.
(I won't even ask you if it's in the new-circus-doubletalk phrasing, like camel toe or moose knuckle. But "clown shoe" has GOT to be this year's "tool".
I've never seen that before, and I'm gonna use it here and there and see how fast it can spread in message-board lingo.)
I just love social experiments.
Thanks!
Seabach77
Thanks for the positive feedback, Seabach. I've been writing the binnall report for so long, I sometimes worry that I've slipped too much into a routine with the weekly missive. It's nice to hear that the audience still finds it fresh.
"Clown shoe" was actually an expression used by an old friend of mine. He used is so often that I just picked it up and it made its way to BoA via sheer osmosis. I'd be thrilled to see it spread further and further until we hear it in the mainstream.
Question ? Comment ? Gripe ? Query ? Love Letter ? Write to tbinnall@hotmail.com and we'll sort it all out.
This Week in C2C History
3.30.2005 : "Unlike the slugfest that was The Great UFO Debate from last summer, the Velikovsky Debate was a tepid affair. James McCanney was put in the unenviable task of defending Velikovsky's theories, while Dr. David Morrison essentially explained why Velikovsky was all wrong. Considering that we've had over 50 years to dispel most of Velikovsky's work, McCanney was pretty much left in the position of saying "give him a chance".
As hoped, the debate slowly turned into a debate over McCanney's unique space theories. Morrison was clearly the aggressor here, going after McCanney hard and McCanney was reeling and not putting up much of a fight. Morrison also took shots at the various "pseudo-scientists" who appear on C2C, though he didn't call out RCH, sadly.
Noory proclaimed that McCanney won the debate with a score of 53% to 47 % for Morrison, showing that C2C's claims of having the smartest audience in radio may not be altogether true. Kudos to Noory for adding the "coin toss" at the start of the debate, a touch of showmanship that added another layer to the "theme" episode. 3.31.1997 : The sordid sage of Heaven's Gate continues to sour C2C ... "Art continues to defend his position of having no involvement in the deaths of 39 Heavens Gate members. He recaps the original events concerning Chuck Schramek and Courtney Brown leading up to this tragedy. Art suggests having a discussion on the controversy and the chronology of the events on open lines too." (artbell.com cd rom)
