Rise and shine, campers, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today ! It's cold out there every day. What is this, Miami Beach ? Not hardly.
It's time once again for your trip down C2C memory lane, with your own personal Phil Connors. I'll try my best to get through this week's report without harping on the date and how it coincides with the 1980's Marla Gibbs sitcom, 227. Am I the only one who remembers that show ?
For starters, we'll look back on the past week's offering from Coast to Coast AM, including a more detailed look at "Ian" than usual, thoughts on Alan Corbeth returning to Coast, and the rest of the week's highlights (and low lights too). We look ahead to Seth Shostak, John Hogue, and other assorted ilk appearing next week on Coast. We've got a preview of this week's resumption of BoA : Audio, some hate mail for Joe Vee and his response, a look back at C2C history, including Noory's chat with a whale whisperer, and, of course, Hot Newz, featuring Noory and Hoagland crashing Super Bowl media day.
Whether the shadow is seen or not, we continue onward with the binnall report ...
The Week That Was
When I signed off last week, it was my birthday and Noory celebrated by scrapping Friday into Saturday Open Lines in favor of a double guest special with Linda Moulton Howe and Alex Jones. Given that it was my birthday, I wasn't around to catch the episode, despite the strong line-up of guests.
As such, we'll turn it over to Lesley's C2C Rewind ..."First up for the first 2 hours was Linda Moulton Howe. Linda told the amazing story of a farming family in North Dakota who had been experiencing many strange things. Some of their animals had been mutilated, they had seen strange crafts in the sky and the son had even been attacked by a non-human creature. A very interesting story. Next up for the final 2 hours was Alex Jones. I must give Alex some credit, he has really chilled out a lot recently and it makes him a lot more enjoyable to listen to. As always he was full of important stories of the North American Union and 911 related stuff."
Saturday on "Ian", I was expecting a BoA-related surprise, per the promise of one Ian Punnett, himself. Well, consider me punked by the Punnett, as he failed to deliver (but assures me it will happen this weekend, for what it's worth). As such, I ended up listening to perhaps my first full episode of "Ian" in months, at least. So, this week, I'll devote more time than usual to discussing Ian's show.
The first hour saw pop-ins from egomaniac sailor Captain Kelly Sweeney, who felt the need to storm the airwaves to give us the shocking revelation that the water was unseasonably warm (or something mundane like that). Following Sweeney, Paul Williams and Jeffrey Epstein were on for about 45 minutes, trickling over the 1st hour slot, to discuss the KGB spy poisoning case and how it somehow tied into nukes in mosques. Ian didn't sound too impressed, though.
Then came the full body of the show, with guest Dr. Les Carter, discussing "anger issues". Despite the seemingly pedestrian nature of the topic, these two had excellent chemistry (likely because Carter guests on Ian's weekday show a lot). Carter sounded a lot like Dr. Phil, which made it even more fun, as I kept imagining that Ian was interviewing Dr. Phil. Overall, a strong episode and a nice change of pace from the usual esoteric fare on Coast.
They covered "angry people" from a variety of angles and, as usual, Ian dug pretty deep and ended up having some pretty thoughtful questions that I'd not considered. He also asked some hilarious questions like "Is it okay to be mad at 5 people ? Or should it be just 1 ? Or is 30 okay ?" Ian took us behind the curtain, talking about some of the bizarre correspondence he gets from irate Coast listeners. He also tried to figure out what constituted "crazy" nowadays, a mindbending task, considering the usual C2C content.
Speaking of which, and worthy of note, was that they played Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" for bumper music, which is shocking in and of itself. C2C playing a song that came out this past year ? That's crazy. Kudos to whomever managed to get that one past the usual filter of "adult light" music that serves as C2C bumper music.
On Saturday's C2C proper, Art Bell and Charles Seife made history as Seife guested for the second consecutive weekend to discuss the "nature of the universe" and all the odd little alt. science side roads that entails. Since I listened to the whole "Ian" before this, I ended up being a little burned out at this point and skipped out on this one. Lesley, of course, caught it and informed us that the impending new Baby Bell will be a girl and they've decided to name her Asia Bell. Congrats to Art on that one.
Here's Lesley's take on the Seife interview, "He and Art talked about other dimensions and the multiverse. A very good show. I missed most of his show last week and may have to download and listen since I enjoyed this one so much." Sounds like Seife made a strong case for Guest of the Year honors if this performance holds up over the rest of '07.
Sunday saw Dr. Orrin Pilkey as the guest and the topic was flawed mathematics. Sadly, I missed this one, as I was working on BoA : Audio stuffs, but it sounded quite good. No buzz on it, from the quarters I checked, so it may have gotten lost in the shuffle. That said, this is one episode I'll probably try and go back and check out when my schedule frees up.
Monday night, The Noor was back in the saddle after his brief trip down to Texas. The full show guest was Brent Miller, discussing the Horizon Project. Despite my misgivings about this one, it was actually pretty good. I was totally wrong last week, in that this wasn't a prediction show, per se. This was more about the coming global catastrophe and how we're all screwed. Poor Noory seemed a bit nonplused about it all and who can blame him, since he (and most C2C listeners for that matter) hears this story probably once a month from any random C2C guest. A fun episode, if you aren't burned out by the doom and gloom, end times type stuff.
J.J. Hurtak returned to C2C on Tuesday to talk about all sorts of esoteric matters. After the first hour of the interview, they also brought in Desiree Hurtak, JJ's wife, to discuss more ancient esoteric stuffs. Strong episode that covered a variety of topics, including UFOs, Egypt, and, surprisingly, sound.
Wednesday saw The Noor welcome Chip Coffey to the program to discuss demonic entities. I only heard the first half hour or so of the Coffey interview, but it sounded pretty good. Coffey had a bit of a Dannion Brinkley, country boy style, but also brought a down to earth nature to the demonic stuff that was a welcome change from the usual showmanship you get with the topic. The buzz on this one was good, as well.
Meanwhile, in the first hour, Noory had Douglas Hagmann on to discuss the Boston bomb hoax. The Noor was filled to the brim with righteous indignation over the entire affair, making me roll my eyes on more than one occasion. Having experience the entire scene from the heart of the beast and also being a big Aqua Teen fan, I couldn't help but laugh at the entire affair (much to Noory's chagrin). Anytime I see Meatwad on the nightly news, it's a good thing. Sorry, George, but the blame here lies with the usual out of touch suits in the government who fall all over themselves to cover their asses and end up making us all look both foolish and cowardly.
The formal week wrapped up with Dean Radin on Thursday talking about intention experiments. I usually skip out on Radin, but since he seems to have a big following in various "new school" esoteric circles, I made a point of checking this one out and I was not disappointed. Lots of enlightening discussion on C2C staple, the Princeton Eggs. After hearing these eggs talked about ad nauseam on C2C, it was refreshing to hear some back story and more detail about them from someone how knows what he's talking about. Good episode.
Worthy of note was that in the first hour, Noory had Alan Corbeth on for the first half hour to discuss his part time return as producer of Coast. The Noor tried to put a positive spin on this one, but I'm under the impression that anytime you have a power shakeup like this behind the scenes, it's usually a sign that something isn't working with the main product.
Given that we don't know much about what goes on behind closed doors at Coast, and even I am only vaguely aware of the power structure, it's too early to start making proclamations as to what this all might mean. Sorry Bell fans, but I do not think it means Noory is on his way out. It may mean better guests, less Morgus level garbage, and a return to the more esoteric stylings of the old Art Bell Show, but that's just my hope.
We'll know more in six months, when we can look back and determine if the show has changed at all in the time since Corbeth returned. I am mildly disappointed, because if C2C is in trouble, Premiere knows I'm only a steady paycheck away from helping them turn the show into the counter culture stopping point it once was. You've got my number, Coast.
All in all, a decent week. Nothing stood out as particularly strong, though I've a feeling that the Alex Jones 2 hour appearance and the Charles Seife episode were both very good and I'm sorry I missed them.
The Week That Is
Sigh. This week's binnall report was literally seconds away from being published when C2C.com finally posted the guest list for next week. Thanks ... thanks a lot.
Tonight, we've got Friday into Saturday Open Lines tonight. James McCanney is the pop-in. Should be interesting, as it's been a while since he's been on the show.
Saturday, on "Ian", IP (or someone claiming to be him) promises a BoA related surprise on C2C AM Live. Again, it's not a binnall pop-in, but it is pretty cool and we'll see if IP delivers this week after telling me, "I will not fail you again, My Liege" on Monday.
Aside from that, Ian's got Tom McShane as a guest. The topic will be art theft and how it ties into terrorism. Sounds a bit like a Peter Lance type topic, but hopefully without the breathless, lengthy anecdotes. Should be a strong episode.
Saturday night on C2C proper, like a bad rash Seth Shostak surfaces yet again. He'll be on to give us his unvarnished opinion on the Roswell story. Thank goodness, because that's what Roswell needs ... more proclamations from mainstream scientists who know nothing about the case. I'll listen, but only because I'm a masochist. Surely an episode that will make many in the listening audience want to tear their hair out.
Sunday on Coast, Gordon Michael Scallion will be the guest and he'll be giving us a forecast for the planet. Yawn.
Monday, The Noor has Christian Wilde on the program for an in-depth look at stem cells. Yikes. Sounds painfully mainstream. Hopefully I will end up pleasantly surprised, but I'm not holding out hope.
John Hogue returns to C2C on Tuesday to give us his forecast for 2007. Ugh. Hogue is a little late for the forecasting, but since he was skipped on the big predictions special on 1.1.7, I'll overlook his tardiness. I will not overlook his retardiness, however, so I expect the usual "Nostradamus tells us" garbage.
Then comes the return of Wildcard Wednesday as C2C promises us TBA. Since Noory just realized they need Jordan Maxwell on the program, I wouldn't be surprised to finally see him return in this slot. But, given that I'm almost always disappointed with TBA, I suspect it will end up being Sean David Morton or someone else lackluster.
The formal week wraps up on Thursday with Lawrence Joseph to talk about solar cycles and the Mayan calendar. Apparently, Joseph also sees a doom and gloom future ahead for us, so get your bunker building materials ready for this one.
All in all, I'd say it's a fairly strong week ahead with a nice mix of established, albeit subpar, names. Hogue, Shostak, Gordon Michael Scallion, these are a few of my least favorite things. But, Tom McShane on "Ian" should be good and Shostak's take on Roswell ought to be at least entertaining because we all know he won't say anything good.

binnall report mailbag
There's got to be something in the water as, less than a month after receiving a rare piece of hate mail, another one arrived this past week. Thankfully, it was directed @ BoA's founding father and resident ranting theologian, Joe Vee. Being the diligent editor I am, I kindly forwarded it to the offices of Mr. Vee for his rebuttal. He was gracious enough to allow up to turn the forum over to him for this week's mailbag.
First, the offended reader, responding to this Wrath of Joe column ...
Re : LA Marzulli and the Nephilim
You know, this book is a work of fiction. I think it interesting that a person would rant and rave against a work of fiction where the author can take any liberties he wishes. More importantly, for a "theologian" you are severely lacking in a "Christ-like" attitude toward your fellow man. I have a hard time believing you have a real relationship with God after looking at your website. I think He would be ashamed of you. If these books interest someone enough to pick up the Bible and see for themselves what it says, then Mr. Marzulli is doing good works for the Kingdom of Heaven. What have you done?
Johanna And, now, Joe Vee's response ...
Dear Johanna,
Mr. Marzulli has also LIED about things (IE, unpublished Dead Sea Scrolls) to get people to buy his books. THIS is why I rant against him. And, blessedly, being a saint has never demanded a man or woman to be a plaster painted infantile saint, rather, some of the most assertive and even hostile men and women are the work of Christ in His Church; after all, sanctity is wrought only buy the imitation of Christ. And if you read the story about the money changers in the temple close enough, you'll realize, Our God and Savior knew how to rant....incidently, if you're fluent in Greek, you'll also know the evangelists put words in Jesus' mouth which are the equivalent to our "cuss" words. But I'm sure you were well aware of all of this before you wrote your email....
No word on whether or not Johanna replied to Vee.

This Week in C2C History
2.1.2006 : A forgotten gem from last year as Noory had Dr. Philip Tierno and Dr. Len Horowitz as split show guests, who ended having a slight difference of opinion ... to hilarious effect. "Noory's unending quest to scoop the mainstream media brought us this breaking episode about pockets of deadly staph infections running around in America. What made this episode Coastie worthy was the fact that first Tierno guested and implied this staph infection thing was bad news and gave some advice. Then, hilariously, Horowitz guested the next hour and essentially crapped all over everything Tierno said." (2006 Coastie Contender list)
2.2.2005 : It was a life aquatic for Noor and company as Bonnie Norton joined the show to discuss her telepathic communication with Keiko the whale. According to my records, a surprisingly good episode, "Horton hears a whale. Yes, Bonnie Horton says she talked to Keiko the whale and she wanted to share it all with us. A surprisingly good episode, despite the craptacular concept for a show topic. Horton seemed genuine enough that mocking her provides no amusement. Twas nice to see a C2C guest who doesn't proclaim the end of the world. That said, once Noory mentioned she was trying to get a movie made about her relationship with Keiko the whale, her credibility was ruined for me." (binnall report, 2.4.5)
2.2.1998 : It was also a life aquatic for Art Bell, seven years earlier and from a different perspective, as he covered the news of the day, "71 dolphins have beached themselves in Massachusetts" and "Scientists in New Zealand are investigating the mysterious death of a thousand baby sea lions and other marine life." (artbell.com cd rom)
End Notes
Before I get some twisted letter or something, let me give credit where credit is due and that is to whomever was quick enough to realize that the 1st paragraph in this week's binnall report was cribbed line-for-line from the infamous radio message in the Bill Murray classic "Groundhog Day". If you haven't seen it, you're un-American.
Plugs : Tomorrow @ binnallofamerica.com, BoA : Audio, Season Two resumes with John Greenewald, Part 1 of 2. We're going into the blackvault and we're going to cover it from every nook and cranny. Sunday, it's Lesley's C2C Rewind @ the Debris Field. Monday, Coastie Contenders and/or Corsi Counter updated. Not sure which yet, but we're falling woefully behind on the Coasties for 2007, so it will probably be that one. Tuesday, Lesley's Grey Matters. Wednesday, Khyron's K-Files, featuring something special, according to the K-Man's personal correspondence with me. Thursday, Hot Newz. And, Friday, we do it all one more time, Phil Connors-style, here in the binnall report.
binnallofamerica.com ... like a party in your brain and everyone's invited.
On that note, I'm off to put the finishing touches on this week's audio. Until you hear from me on audio tomorrow or in text next week, this is binnall ... signing off.
