Ugh. I'll warn you right now. I'm looking out over about a foot of snow covering everything in sight and I've got a migrane headache so bad you could write a Gordon Lightfoot song about it. But I failed you last week with a lackluster binnall report and I'll be damned if I do it again this week.
So, we've got a huge dose of coverage from last week's C2C episodes and a heady preview of next week's C2C shows. binnall report mailbag returns, as does This Week in C2C History. We preview tomorrow's episode of BoA : Audio, Season One and we encourage you to vote for this year's Coasties. It's all here.
I'm snowed in. You may be snowed it. Let's put on a cup of cocoa and do this.
The Week That Was
We left off last week with The Noor doing double pop-in duty. First, he had Mike St. Lawrence on to talk about UFO Abduction Insurance. Seriously. While Noory acted like this was "all in good fun", I wasn't amused by some dude profiting off of the "giggle factor" associated with Ufology. Amused I was not, neither was I surprised, though.
For hours 2 and 3, Noory brought back Linda Moulton Howe, who was digging into the Paul Hellyer story, including a nice interview with Hellyer. She also delved into the fascinating story of a potential buried UFO in Utah. This was an awesome story and was one of the better segments I've heard from LMH in a while.
Saturday Night Punnett was all about nutrition, with Dr. Colin Campbell. I'll be honest, I had no interest in hearing about this so I skipped right on over it. I did catch first hour guest Dr. David Penchansky, who refuted stories about the number 666 being misinterpreted in the Bible. Penchansky said it's an old story that is gaining new ground, but there's not much to it. (Keep that in mind when we get to Tuesday's show).
Sunday featured The Noor returning for his monthly Sunday one-shot. His guest was Dr. Marc Siegel, who was on to talk about the "fear epidemic". I'd originally skipped this episode, but actually went back and listened to it earlier in the week. Overall, it was decent, but didn't live up my expectations and it seemed like it was primarily about the endless stream of potential plagues and how overblown they are and not so much about any other source of fear. Siegel did touch on terror and killer bees", but that was about it. Siegel worked well, but he'd be better suited in a roundtable where C2C could hide his weaknesses. I could see him working with Loren Coleman, of "The Copycat Effect" to discuss media overcoverage.
By Monday, Noory was back on schedule Dr. Paul Pearsall. Pearsall's deal was that he was against the newfound trend of "self help" movements. This was a pretty good episode, albeit clinical. Pearsall has a pretty "out there" perspective on psychology, but it was actually more "classic" than "new age". Pearsall was sort of a "pull yourself up by the bootstraps, dammit" type of dude and it worked well.
Tuesday ... Project Serpo ... so much to say. Let's begin with the rundown, Noory had Bill Ryan, Whitley Strieber, Richard C. Hoagland, and Richard Doty on the show to talk about some shadowy dude known only as "Anonymous" who claimed that he was part of some organization that arranged human and ET exchanges to a planet known as ... Serpo. Got it ? Good.
Anyway, this was a farcical adventure the likes of which I'd not seen on Coast since David Booth and Wayne Green claimed to have met Sister Lucia. We start with Noory overselling this like it was the second coming of Roswell and bringing on Bill Ryan, who's only claim to fame is that he is riding this half baked Serpa story to esoteric prominence. Move on to Whitley Strieber claiming to have evidence and producing a decade old anecdote that was as flimsy as generic toilet paper. Throw in Richard C. Hoagland along the way to promote his DVD set and claim that the true reasoning behind this Serpa charade was to, of course, prove his hyperdimensional physics claim. (What an egomaniac ! ) And, for two hours, Richard Doty, impersonating a retired government worker who had "inside knowledge" of the ET agenda.
The end result was a bouillabaisse of retarded esoterica. There was so much wrong with this episode, I don't even know where to begin. I did some running time commentary on it over @ theusofe.com, as I knew going in that this was going to be a farce. I'll probably be penning a full length article for BoA sometime in the near future as this episode was deserving of extensive ridicule.
Definitely worth listening to, certainly entertaining, but barely factual and, at the end of the day, more subversive to Ufology than helpful, which is really sad. Various versions of the Serpa story have been going around for years. That Richard Doty is all over this story and the best Ufologists you've got to go to bat for the story are Strieber and Hoagland are good indicators that there is nothing to this. Ultra jeers to Noory for his sloppy handling of Richard Doty. I expect better from him and was disappointed to say the least. If Doty is his idea of a "government whistleblower" than I am fearful for his idea of "disclosure", notably this big blockbuster episode he keeps hyping. Surely a classic episode, but for all the wrong reasons.
On Wednesday, I was expecting some zaniness from Christopher Knight and Alan Butler, who were on to talk about the "Hollow Moon Theory". Oddly enough, Butler and Knight were pretty serious in their study and not too over-the-top. They were amusing in shooting down some of Noory's questions like, "Could the moon be an alien space ship ?"
As the night wore on, though, they did seem to get pretty odd when they started talking about just how this hollow moon could have been made. One of them, I'm not sure which one, seemed certain that the fake moon was made by time travelers, which is outright insane. Speaking of which, Hoagland showed up in the middle hour to tie this into his work and promote his DVD set. (It is the holiday season, you know). Good to great episode, but not classic.
On Thursday, The Noor brought us back to that sad day 25 years ago when John Lennon was assassinated. Noory's special guest, R. Gary Patterson, brought the goods, big time. Sadly, he didn't seem to bring the phones or at least the phones that worked. He kept getting cut off and Noory was flaking. If you enjoy awkward radio, this was the episode for you.
As usual, RGP had tons of inside knowledge on The Beatles and the strange circumstances surrounding the entire band. I would have liked to have heard more discussion on the Mark David Chapman / John Hinkley connection, but it seemed like RGP either didn't buy it or didn't want to "go there". Hilariously, Noory verified that he is indeed a "square", as he said he enjoyed the Beatles before they got all "psychedelic". Also, I was disappointed with RGP's total lack of love for Bob Dylan. You'd think, from listening to Patterson, that Dylan didn't even exist. Kudos to Streamlink member Japanese_American for getting on the show yet again. He seems to turn up every time RGP is a guest. Fun episode.
The Week That Is
Tonight ! Noory spares me the torture of listening to Open Lines with ... a replay of Open Lines from 11.5.2004. My heart goes out to BoA's Lesley, who is no doubt smashing her radio with her fists over this scheduling move. The insanity of putting on a rerun of Open Lines is something that needs it's own episode of Coast to really understand (or at least a poorly rated episode of Dr. Phil).
Saturday Night Punnett takes a walk on the odd side with notorious ET "contact" Riley Martin. Apparently, Riley is using the returning Cassini Probe from Saturn to build up his classic story of being abducted to Saturn. No one takes Riley Martin seriously and he's generally perceived as a joke. It should be interesting to hear how Ian takes to this character.
I've been hearing for years about Mad Man Markham on the old Art Bell Show and now I'm finally getting the chance to hear at least one of the infamous episodes. The original air date was 4.18.1995, so this is a deep in the archive classic. I'll credit where credit is due, in that I was skeptical when Art Bell reduced his schedule and promised "classic shows". He has proven my skepticism baseless with this great chance to hear C2C history.
Dry your tears, usofe.com's baemark, because Charles Ostman has returned to the schedule, this time for Monday's show. It's all about nanotechnology. I always poo poo these episodes, but I'll give Ostman a chance ... then I'll ask Baemark how the rest of the episode turned out.
Tuesday, we'll be hearing from Lloyd Pye, who will be weighing in on the intelligent design debate. You may recall Pye for his work in the Star Child Skull, so it sounds like he's done his homework on the ancient ET theories. I suspect he'll push for more funding for his Star Child project, as he is wont to do.
Wednesday features another controversial figure in Ufology, Peter Gersten. Gersten has been tied to some slimy pursuits over the last decade or so and it should come as no surprise that he is sticking his finger in the Serpo pie amongst other esoteric topics. I expect lots of bold proclamations with little to back them up. I'm sure it will be fascinating, but in a fictional sort of way.
It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas on Thursday with Sherry Steiger. She'll be talking about Christmas miracles. When her hubby, Brad Steiger, appeared a few weeks back to talk about pet miracles, it was a great episode. I expect another heartwarming evening, replete with Noory's "aw shucks" moments.
Friday ... Open Lines, no doubt, either replayed or live, who cares.
binnall of america : audio, Season One
This Week : Adam Gorightly (Part 2 of 2), where we discuss, in-depth, his book "The Prankster and the Conspiracy", all about '60's counter-culture icon Kerry Thornley and how Thornley got mixed up in the Kennedy assassination and eventually locked horns with Jim Garrison of all people and subsequently went somewhat insane. A fascinating tale that I'm sure you'll really dig.
Adam's website is : www.adamgorightly.com.
Next Week : TBA. Oh, you have no idea. Less than 48 hours from now, I will have taped two massive interviews for BoA : Audio. As usual, no names announced until the interview is in the can, but I will say these are key players in Ufology today.
The 2005 Coasties Are Coming
There are about 11 days left in voting season for the The Coasties. We're a little over halfway there. You have plenty of time left to vote, but don't you want to get it out of the way now ? Sure you do.
Here's the ballot, rules, and resources : HERE.
Voting continues until Dec. 21st.

Letter #1
Doubtlessly you heard Coast last night and, I'm assuming, you visited the Serpo website. This is a hoax. What ought to clue most people in is the atrocious grammar of this alleged secret source.
--Joe Vee in Providence, RI
Geez. Yes, you read that right. The infamous Joe Vee, one of the founding fathers of BoA (who subsequently went into a purported self imposed exile) re-emerged to slam the Serpa story and claim he was coming back to Boa at some point in '06.
Letter #2
Tim,
Why is there so little coverage of Rense at binnallofamerica.com ?
Chris in Boca Raton, Florida
I could've sworn we did this question before, but we'll cover it again this week. I only have so much time. There is a familiarity with Coast, since I've been listening to it for so long and only discovered Rense about a year ago. We do have some select articles on Rense at BoA, but we'll try and add more in 2006.

This Week in C2C History
12.9.2004 : Somewhere Stan Tenen, of 2005's Creation Roundtable, was on Coast to Coast AM. You wouldn't know it from the binnall report of one year ago : ">This past week, as noted last week, I was in Los Angeles meeting with a variety of folks involved in the entertainment business and scouting out the "City of Angels" for potential expansion of the binnall of america empire in 2005. It also marked the first full week in nearly 2 years where I did not catch a single minute of C2C. Sadly, I had no access to any radios and no time to listen to the episodes on a computer. Therefore, I'm not quite capable of recapping this past week's Coast. (Somewhere George Noory is letting out a relieved sigh)>." See I miss weeks every now and again.
12.11.2003 : The late, some would say great, James Arthur made C2C history with one of the most insane quotes ever : ">The mushroom is Jesus, and Santa Claus is also a mushroom>." (c2c website). Yes ! It's the "Jesus is a mushroom guy". Can't say enough about this episode.
12.9.1999 : It was Y2K insanity as Art Bell gave us the latest on the end of the world : "Y2K>.... Art saw a blurb on CNN about a bank limiting withdrawals to $3000.00. He had CNN send him the story which he reads to us.> " (artbell.com cd rom). Ironically enough, Art would say the next night that ">he doesn't think there will be any major, major disasters>." (artbell.com cd rom). So I guess we can't totally blame him for the hysteria, at least not at the last minute anyway.
Meanwhile, also on 12.9.1999, Bell also had notorious UFO hoaxster Dr. Johnathan Reed in one of C2C's most infamous episodes. Reed had approx. 4 hours to prattle on about how he captured an alien, weaving a BS tale of legendary proportions. Classic C2C and not in a good way.
End Notes
Ahhh. Time to turn of the lights, take a boatload of aspirin and try and shake whatever the hell is afflicting me. Hopefully, I'll be in better spirits and conditions in a day or two.
Plugs : Tomorrow on BoA : Audio, Season One, it's Adam Gorightly (Part 2 of 2). It's all about Kerry Thornley and how he got wrapped up in the Kennedy Assassination. Sunday, it's SNP and smoker dave. Monday, News Watch. Tuesday, Lesley's Grey Matters. Wednesday, Khyron's "The K-Files". Thursday, Hot Newz, featuring the 3rd Coasties "Get Out The Vote" poster. And, Friday, we do it all again right here with another "binnall report" direct from the heart of December.
Meanwhile, coming this Thursday evening to BoA, the debut of an all new writer and column ... R.Lee's Trickster's Realm. R.Lee is a serious student of esoterica and we are totally psyched to be bringing her to BoA on Thursday nights.
As the world turns, this is binnall signing off. Vote for the Coasties.
