12.29.6

Coming at you mere hours from the end of the year, this is the final binnall report of 2006. I'm happy to say that I am back in Boston after a fun, but trying, two weeks in San Diego. It is very nice to be home and back to work on BoA, but I've found that there's quite a bit on my plate here to take care of, so this will be yet another half hearted edition of "tbr"

This week's binnall report is still be hampered by my vacation, in that I did miss quite a few C2C episodes over the last 7 days, so I apologize for that. We're nearly firmly back on track now, so I expect it to be smooth sailing for the start of '07. Also, given how far behind we are on stuff, I'll save my report on the binnall / Noory summit for next week, when we are firmly settled back in here @ BoA HQ.

For our weekly session this time around, I look back at the few episodes I caught last week on C2C, including the David Sereda episode. We look ahead to an odd week ahead for C2C, featuring three theme episodes and one great replay. We make a final push for Coastie votes, mere hours before the final deadline for votes. I preview tomorrow's BoA : Audio featuring James Carrion, the new International Director of MUFON. We dig into the C2C vault for the resolution of our serialized "Hoagland / Dore '98" story. And, of course, we have the final Coastie Commemorative Poster, only in Hot Newz. (binnall report mailbag will return next week, I swear)

On that note and for one last time in 2006, let's rock it out ...

The Week That Was ... Somewhat

I already explained last week that trying to catch C2C while on vacation and three hours ahead of when I normally listen was practically impossible as it is. Throw in the holidays and preparing to fly back to Boston and I caught even less. In lieu of giving you dry recaps of each day's episode, that I did not miss, I'll just touch on the ones I did hear and any notes from stuff I did not catch.

I heard some of Art Bell's Sunday show with David Sereda. This was good stuff. Sereda usually puts in good a good performance, but really seems to kick it up another notch when on with Art. This episode was no exception.

I tried listening on Monday night with Hugh Ross talking about cosmology, but what I heard during that middle hour of the interview put me right to sleep. Total snoozefest on that one. The beginning hour was probably good, but when I got into it, they were full on into technical cosmological stuff and I couldn't take it.

I did, however, listen to some of the revolving door of guests that accompanied Robert Miles on Tuesday. Miles is good people, though I'm still not quite sure what to make of his "trip to Jupiter". I loved how he had quite a few big names in exopolitics on throughout the show with him, including Paola Harris, Michael E. Salla, Alfred Webre, Elliott Maynard, and Anthony Miles. I heard Webre and Salla and those were pretty good. I'll confess to being exhausted at that point in the day, so I sadly missed much of what sounds like a pretty stellar episode. I'll go back and try and catch this one, for sure.

Wednesday was a patchwork rebroadcast featuring Kathleen Keating as the main guest and Ray Bradbury as the pop-in. I'm sure I recapped these elsewhere when they originally aired. The Bradbury one is noteworthy for the hilarious Hoagland fan boy call, which had me cracking up for days.

Thursday's episode was highlighted by the surprise that Art Bell was back in the US. For those of you obsessed with Art Bell minutiae, he also said his new wife is now an official immigrant to America. Art is also apparently having his cats shipped to America, so I presume this means that he is moving back to America, not just on vacation. Poor Premiere Radio must be wondering why they bothered setting up a whole new studio in Asia for Art, but that's what they get when dealing with an esoteric eccentric. Say what you will about Art Bell, his saga over the last 12 months made 2006 quite fascinating.

At any rate, kudos to Art for the hardcore fifteen hour flight, skip from one episode to another. To host a show from the Philippines on Sunday, then one in America on Thursday, that's bad ass. The guest was Graham Hancock, but I missed that. Everyone loves Graham, so I'm sure this was killer.

So, as you can see, I missed quite a bit of the week. Now that I am back in the comfort of BoA HQ. I can assure you that I will be back on the right track following C2C. I'm looking forward to seeing what C2C brings to the table for 2007.

The Week That Is

We kick things off tonight with Ian Punnett getting a rare Friday night guest hosting spot, filling in for The Noor. IP will be talking to John Jay Harper about solar cycles. No word on if this is a full

Ian gets back to work on Saturday evening for the C2C early show with guest Caryl Dennis. The topic will be "vanishing twin phenomenon", which sounds fascinating, though I confess to being painfully unaware as to what it is. Irregardless, it's the final "Ian" of '06 and it should be good.

Saturday night on C2C proper, Art Bell hosts Part I of the Annual Predictions show. These are always a lot of fun and it's interesting to see how the audience fares at prognosticating.

Sunday sees Art finish up the tradition with Part II of the Annual Predictions Show. See my preview from above.

Monday night, 1.1.2007, The Noor will have what is apparently (and sadly) now an annual tradition, the C2C New Year's Day Special, featuring 7 different prognosticators looking ahead at the new year and telling us what they "see" happening. Ugh, perhaps we get into the college football mindset on this one and just call it the "C2C Toilet Bowl".

The only upside to this is that we are spared each of the seven getting their own episode strewn throughout January, so if we can cover all the C2C fortune tellers in one fell swoop, I'm all for it. The line-up consists of Joseph Jacobs, Paul Guercio, Glynis McCants, Dr. Louis Turi, Sean David Morton, Susan Miller, and Gerald Celente. Note that there's no sign of Sylvia Browne. Also, I predict that Celente will be angry about something.

Tuesday night, Noory hosts a "special evening" of Open Lines. Don't ask me what that means. After a weekend full of Open Lines, I'm not sure what Noory could do to make it special, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'd much rather have a "Year in Review" type episode with experts from various esoteric niches, but maybe we'll see that in the future.

Wednesday night, Noory is off to Vale for some skiing and lattes, so he's leaving behind a rebroadcast of the excellent 1.10.2006 episode of C2C featuring Colm Kelleher and George Knapp talking about the Skinwalker Ranch. This is one of the best of '06 and one to catch if you missed it the first time around.

Thursday, Noory jets from Vale to Miami to party with Paris Hilton and in his stead we'll be getting a replay of Lionel Fanthorpe from 2.8.2005, talking about Templar secrets. Oddly enough, and I'm not sure if this will make the replay or not, this is the episode where Noory called for listeners to pray for my father, who was felled by a heart attack a few days prior back in '05. Thanks again to the Noor for his divine intervention during that troubling time @ BoA HQ. This was also a great episode, featuring the always stellar Fanthorpe.

All in all, it's a pretty off-the-wall week for C2C, consisting of three theme episodes, a decent looking "Ian", a random Open Lines for no apparent reason, and two replays, one of which (Skinwalker) is excellent. A good week for me to settle back into the mix, so I'm not complaining.

The 2006 Coasties

At this point, chances are you are reading this post-deadline for voting for the 2006 Coasties. If not, there's still time to make your picks.

Not sure who to vote for ? Can't keep track of all those episodes ?

BoA put together the =http://www.binnallofamerica.com/06coastieslist.html]Coastie Contenders List[/url] to narrow down the massive field into a handful of contenders in each field (from 5 up to 10 or so contenders for some categories). For those who feel it's impossible to distill 2006 into a Coastie Vote, I suggest consulting the list. Hardcore fans seem to already have their favorites picked out.

No matter how you decide your favorites, be sure to voice your opinion of the best of the best on C2C in '06.

The 2006 Coasties Ballot

Consult the Ballot for Award Categories, Rules, and additional Resources.

The Coastie schedule for '06 is as follows ...

12.1.6 :: Ballot released, voting begins. Coastie season is underway.

12.29.6 :: Voting closes.

12.31.6 :: Winners announced.

BoA : Audio : Season Two

This Week : James Carrion

The new International Director of MUFON comes to BoA : Audio to discuss his plans as the new leader of the organization. In this in-depth interview, we discuss the road to Jim becoming new MUFON director, new initiatives to improve MUFON's public relations and draw in younger members, Carrion's long term goals for MUFON, the organization's "end game" plan in event of UFO disclosure, response to critics of MUFON, and tons more.

The MUFON website is www.mufon.com

You can hear an MP3 preview of our James Carrion on BoA : Audio HERE * Just right click and then "save target as".

Next Week : No Episode.

Much like last year, BoA : Audio will be on a winter hiatus until 1.27.7. We will surely have some surprises during the hiatus, but I can't tease them right now.

This Week in C2C History

12.30.2004 :: Now disgraced psychic Sylvia Browne was on the show to give predictions for '05. As usual, they are as vague and mercurial as ever, "she also predicted that 2005 will be a better year than 2004. The economy will rebound a bit in the beginning of the year and then pick up more steam by mid-year. Unemployment will go down, and in the stock market, the medical technology field will do particularly well, she said. Weather-wise she forecast that Florida and North Carolina will be hit hard in 2005." (c2c.com)

12.30.1998 :: God damn. Our serialized story, "Hoagland / Dore '98" concludes in this episode as ... "Art is joined by Richard Hoagland and Paul Dore. Art asks Paul why he initially wanted to come on the program and then reneged and went on other programs. Quite a debate between Richard and Paul ensues. Richard later refers to these two hours as a 'sideshow'."

It all wraps up nicely in the 4th hour, in true C2C fashion, "At the top of the fourth hour Art admits that the previous hour was totally confusing to him. Stephens calls Hoagland a serious, honest researcher in one breath and then a pathological liar in the next . First Stephens said he agreed with the theory of weather control and then says the evidence is an outright lie. Art tries to make some sense of this. Art says he has never heard such a mixed up collection of statements in his life." (artbell.com cd rom)

End Notes

Sigh. It's like spinning plates here @ BoA as we try and wrap up The Coasties, get our last BoA : Audio before the hiatus in the can, and wrap up 2006 with a bang altogether. Despite taking some lumps the last few weeks, the binnall report will be strong and sound come the new year, I promise. Thanks for coming along for the ride for another week.

Plugs : Tomorrow on BoA : Audio, we get a State of MUFON with new International Director James Carrion. A fairly rare and in-depth interview with a new major player on the UFO scene. Sunday, Lesley's C2C Rewind and, of course, the 2006 Coastie Winners. Monday, R. Lee's Trickster's Realm. Tuesday / Wednesday will feature BoA staff picks for the Coastie awards and a look back at 2006 @ BoA. Thursday, Hot Newz. And, next Friday, we do it all again here in the first binnall report of '07.

binnallofamerica.com ... a different kind of animal.

On that note, we call it a week here on my end. I hope all our great readers have a happy and safe New Year's. Until you hear from me next week, this is binnall ... signing off.
