11.11.5

Chilling out on an ultrarare Friday day off. Thank to the Veterans out there for making it possible. Your sacrifices make my insanity possible. We're heading down the highway of November and enjoying the foliage.

This week, we'll be taking a look at what went down on Coast last week and what may go down next week. We also delve into C2C History as only we can along with some Hot Newz on the true nature of The Noor. Meanwhile, we look back at some of last year's big winners in The Coasties and reveal the 2005 Coastie Voting schedule. Also, we preview tomorrow's big BoA : Audio with Grant Cameron and answer reader mail in "the binnall report mailbag".

This week's edition is stuffed to the brim and ready for your consumption ...

The Week That Was

We left off last week as Noory attempted to half-ass the 3rd annual Crash Retrieval Conference with a mere 1 hour shot from Linda Moulton Howe on-location. I won't beat a dead horse here and rip all over C2C again, just say that I was supremely disappointed in this year's coverage, or rather lack-there-of.

LMH produced Jim Marrs for a small segment and then a lengthier one with Richard Dolan. Both were excellent and great speakers, despite only having a small portion of time. Someone informed me that Noory attempted to explain the Open Lines later as "our way of kicking off the weekend" (or some other nonsense), which leads me to believe he may have gotten a lot of e-mails re: no CRC Special III. I can only hope that this problem will be rectified next year and the CRC Special can return to it's former place of prominence.

As promised, I boycotted Open Lines for the rest of the evening in an attempt at a Ghandi-esque protest. I would have gone for a hunger strike, but I'm frail as it is.

Saturday Night Punnett was all about afterlife communication with Dr. Allan Botkin. I missed much of this episode, though I've heard the good doctor Botkin before. He's solid.

What I did catch was the first hour of Saturday Night with Terry Esau. And what an hour it was. Really only a 2nd half of the first hour, but it was a wild one. Esau, purported a friend of Ian Punnett, was the first hand witness to a pastor getting electrocuted, a story that made national headlines earlier in the week. Anyway, Esau showed up with guns blazing, all irate that Ian read some new-age type stories in the earlier hour and had Dr. Allan Botkin on later. He seemed to think this besmirched the memory of the dead pastor. And hilarity ensued, as Esau started ranting like a wounded animal and Ian did his best "caring Oprah" impression as he tried to talk him down. Great stuff. Once he chilled out, his story was astounding too.

Sunday, The Noor checked in for his monthly Sunday night visit. He had Dr. Steve Haltiwanger on the show to talk about "the body electric". I was waiting for Noory to mention the Twilight Zone episode bearing a similar name, but he didn't do it (to the best of my knowledge). My memory is scant on this one, as it was painfully boring. Monthly Sunday Noory episodes should be an event, not a run-of-the-mill episode. Different bumper music, different set-up, different guests, the whole nine yards. Haltiwanger was decent, but nothing special.

Monday, the Captain and Tenille of C2C reunited one more time, with Noory bringing back giant-lover Steve Quayle. Quayle, once the golden boy of Coast, has returned to his roots : fascination with giants and seemingly toned down his terror paranoia rhetoric. That said, we got a glimpse of Steve Quayle as terror expert when he talked about it for the first hour or so. For some reason, this worked really well and almost served as a "2 Sides of Steve Quayle" type affair.

While his terror stuff was pretty good, his giants stuff was awesome, as usual. This was the Quayle that wowed us back in the day. Good to see him back.

Tuesday saw the opposite end of the spectrum with the "Intelligent Design Debate", which was a Richard C. Hoagland joint. He assembled Mike Heiser and Stan Tenen to talk about, duh, Intelligent Design. RCH, unlike the rejuvenated Steve Quayle, is completely burned out. This marked his 53rd appearance of the year. I crap you not.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good Roundtable, but, in the end, hardly the calibre of even the mediocre of other C2C roundtables (another concept that is beginning to suffer from burnout). Heiser was great, let's get that out of the way right now. He deserved better company. Hoagland was Hoagland, you know the routine. Tenen seemed to be hell bent on selling us on his "groundbreaking" theories and Hoagland acted as enabler to this sad situation. Heiser seemed to try to keep it on track, but it was drifting aimlessly. A bad mix of personalities. Hoagland can't seem to pull off the right Roundtable, but I think a lot of it is a result of bad casting and poor direction.

An ideal "Intelligent Design Debate" would have included a die-hard Sitchen disciple (Marshall Klarfeld is an excellent choice) and someone like Heiser who is anti-Sitchen. Throw in a middle of the road or skeptic, Phil Plait, dare I say, and you've got a killer Roundtable.

Wednesday the mood went from disappointing to surprisingly uplifting, as Will Hart joined the show for an awesome episode dealing in atlantis, pyramids, and, oddly enough, hyperdimensional physics. This is a classic example of someone else using an RCH idea and presenting it better than the man himself. Much better than expected and a real treat.

Thursday, The Noor rocked out with Mark Gumbinger and they discussed ship wrecks and haunted lighthouses. A tad drier than I expected, but pretty good. Very educational. I never learned so much about famous lighthouses and ship wrecks as I did last night. It also served as a veritable "behind the song" for Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Now if only we could find out the story behind "If You Could Read My Mind".

The Week That Is

Tonight, on Friday Night Coast to Coast, we'll hear from Dannion Brinkley as the special 1st Hour Pop-In. Good stuff. Ironically enough, Brinkley was on last year, this very night, so it may be to discuss Dannion's work with veterans at hospices. I always enjoy a visit from Dannion.

Saturday Night Punnett will take us to old school ufology for an update on the Billy Meier case with Michael Horn. I recall Horn on C2C a couple of years back with Art Bell and it was good. IP may be able to pull off a good one.

Let it be noted that I rip on C2C when they deserve it, but I also shower them with praise when they earn it. This is the case with Sunday's replay, an awesome grab from deep in the vault ... May 27th, 1994 to be exact, where Art Bell talks with Preston Nichols about the Philadelphia Experiment. Sweet. Super kudos to C2C for finally giving us some real "classic" episodes instead of stuff that aired three months ago.

Monday, The Noor has esoteric legend Brad Steiger on to talk about amazing animals. I'd wondered if Noory would ever have Steiger on, considering his stalwart status at Rense. I'm not too sure about the amazing animals stuff, but it may turn out to be awesome.

Tuesday looks to be awesome as we'll be hearing from Cryptozoology God Loren Coleman. Yes. Count me among the many marks for Coleman, as I can't get enough of the Bigfoot expert. He'll also be talking about Mothman. I assume we'll get the lo down on the rescinded million dollar Bigfoot bounty from last month and, if we're lucky, a little side dig at Biscardigate.

Wednesday is To Be Announced (TBA). Ugh. Once again and until I am correct, I'll predict Jordan Maxwell as the surprise guest. Considering how it has played out so far, expect Will Henry or James McCanney.

Thursday, Charles R. Smith will be on to beat the war drum against China. Another Rense regular, Smith is educated enough on international geopolitics to make you crap your pants in fear at the impending showdown of superpowers. Prepare clean underpants for this episode.

binnall of america : audio, Season One

This Week : Highly esteemed Ufologist Grant Cameron joins BoA : Audio for a lengthy interview. So lengthy, in fact, that it will be split in two parts. In this week's installment, Cameron discusses his background and how he got involved in Ufology with an awesome story and then we discuss what presidents may know about the UFO enigma.

Grant Cameron's website is www.presidentialufo.com

Next Week : Part 2 of the Grant Cameron interview where we discuss Ufology in general, a fascinating discussion on Disclosure, and a host of other topics.

The 2005 Coasties Are Coming

This week, we look back at some of the big winners from last year and reveal the schedule for this year's awards.

Coasties '04 : The Best of the Best

Last year, we ran the first ever Coastie Awards. 11 Awards, based on individual episodes and topic specific guests. The full winners can be found HERE.

A look at some of '04's big winners ...

Best Episode of the Year for '04 : Secret Societies Roundtable (4.22.2004). A veritable "supergroup" of C2C guests gathered for the historic first ever C2C Roundtable. Linda Moulton Howe, Jim Marrs, Alex Jones, and Steve Quayle. So fantastic was this episode that it went 5 hours. This episode was raved about for weeks by C2C fans and beat out 11 other episodes to take the crown of "Best Episode of the Year".

Prognosticator of the Year for '04 : Sean David Morton (6 C2C Appearances in 2004). This was a dead heat throughout voting and SDM literally won by one vote to edge out C2C stalwart Major Ed Dames. I'm not sure what to make of the voting other than perhaps SDM is the guilty pleasure of many C2C listeners.

UFO Guest/Episode of the Year for '04 : John Lear (3.21.2004). A real stunner. The Lear episode was in a three-way battle with The Great UFO Debate and C2C Crash Retrieval Conference Special II for most of the voting period. The C2C CRC Special dropped off as voting went on and it turned into a two horse race. The Lear episode pulled ahead at the end by a handful of votes to win the award. Perhaps the most competitive race of '04.

The 2005 Coastie Voting Schedule :

12.1.2005 Coastie Voting Begins.

12.21.2005 : Coastie Voting Closes.

12.30.2005 : Coastie Winners Announced.

Letter #1

"We left off last Friday with Noory about to welcome Judy Belushi-Pisano & Tanner Colby on to talk about their Jim Belushi book."

I got such a kick out of seeing that!! If ONLY we were so lucky to get a book about Jim Belushi. I have so many questions about his work in Red Commando and The Principal that I need answered!!

Great job with the site. Just bustin' balls.

Chris

For some odd reason, I got a ton of mail pointing out my foible in last week's binnall report where I misidentified a John Belushi book as a book about his erstwhile and far lesser talented brother Jim Belushi.

I want to apologize to anyone who was offended by that and I hope no children were reading last week. Jim Belushi should not be praised, nor mentioned for that matter, in civilized company.

Letter #2

binnall,

Do you expect to find out the answers to the UFO enigma in your lifetime ?

Clint in Topeka

That depends. If I live an average lifetime, then yes, I will live to see the answers to the UFO puzzle revealed. The last few years, however, I've been more worried that the present events of the world today will cut short many lives and that I may be a casualty to such and, thusly, not see the answer revealed to mankind. And the end of the day, I'm hopeful that I'll be here to see what it all unfold.

This Week in C2C History

11.11.2004 : One of my personal favorite guests, Dannion Brinkley, returned to C2C. I'll admit it, I love chiding Mr.Brinkley, if only because I envy his unending positive attitude. From the 11.12.2004 binnall report : "Ah, speaking of jolly, everyone's favorite "former jerk" who got struck by lightening twice and speaks a bit too much like Oprah, Dannion Brinkley returned to C2C bring verbal hugs along for everyone."

11.12.2004 : Like salt in the wound. One year ago today ... the masterpiece that was C2C UFO Crash Retrieval Special II. Linda Moulton Howe, Jim Marrs, Bob Wood, Chuck Wade, Paul Kimball, Don Ledger, Peter Robbins, and Grant Cameron all in one episode. And you wonder why I was peeved that they skipped on this festivus this year.

11.11.1998 : Damn. I wish they'd replay this episode. An ultrarare David Icke interview conducting by Art Bell. Ah, the good old days. "David Icke, author of "The Truth Will Set You Free", joins Art in the third hour to discuss not only global conspiracy, but the global agenda of certain secret organizations." (artbell.com cd rom)

11.11.1996 : A great example of why I love Coast. This snippet from 9 years ago : "Some discussion of severing heads with a guillotine and whether all thoughts ceased immediately, took place last night on Dreamland. This prompted a letter from a listener informing Art that you can still think for about 30 seconds after decapitation. Art wants to know what would your last conscious thoughts be while your head is laying in the basket." (artbell.com cd rom)

End Notes

That does it this week. We're off the enjoy the rest of this great day off. Hope you do or did the same. The holidays are right around the corner, should be a good time.

Plugs : Tomorrow @ binnallofamerica.com, it's BoA : Audio, Season One ... Grant Cameron (Part 1 of 2). Sunday, it's SNP and smoker dave. Monday, News Watch. Tuesday, Grey Matters with Lesley. Wednesday, The K-Files. Thursday, Hot Newz. Friday, the binnall report, one more time. binnallofamerica.com ... the best is yet to come.

Bundle up, it's getting cold outside. On that note, I bid your farewell for now.
