Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something esoteric to eat. Ooga booga, it's time once again for the binnall report. In light of esoterica's premiere holiday, Halloween, we've tried to spice things up a bit. Don't say I don't do anything special.

This week, we're looking back at the past week on Coast to Coast AM, including JC on Art Bell's Open Lines, Brad Steiger on poltergeists, and a fantastic episode all about Edgar Cayce. We look ahead to a jam packed week of awesome looking Coast episodes, including the GIS, Timothy Good, and Ghost to Ghost AM 2006. We dip into the mailbag for correspondence from a BoA : Audio listener, look back in C2C history at an appearance by Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, preview tomorrow's spooky Chupacabra based edition of BoA : Audio with Scott Corrales, and, finally, we have the inside scoop on last year's C2C Halloween Party, only in Hot Newz.

So step right up and put your hand in this bowl of eyeballs (It's really peeled grapes) and enter the house of horrors that is the binnall report.

The Week That Was

At the conclusion of last week's monstrous edition of the binnall report, we were awaiting the arrival of one Art Bell, filling in for the on-tour Noory. So it was a rare Art-hosted edition of Friday into Saturday Open Lines. I skipped out on the pop-in, Dr. Roy Spencer, talking about climate change, and just checked out the OL instead.

And, I have to say it was probably the closest we'll get to the "good old days" as Art held court over a wide array of weird and fascinating callers. He seemed to be having a good time, which made it all the more fun. I was also surprised and delighted to hear JC call in and spend a half hour arguing with Bell and fighting with callers. That was one for the books, including JC's rant about "lesbian tupperware parties" and the hilarious caller at whom JC yelped, "Are you a lesbian ?!" What made it even better was when she replied, "Yes" and it seemed like Art, JC and the entire C2C audience was stunned and amused. Fun episode and an example of what Open Lines could be, if it wasn't a weekly fixture.

Ian Punnett had John Lash on the "Ian Early Show" to talk about gnostics. I missed out on this one, but Lesley of "The Debris Field" fame caught it and gave the lowdown @ her blog : "I did listen to c2c live with Ian Punnett last night and thought it was darn entertaining. John Lash was the guest and he spoke about Gnosticism. Most of the interview went well until near the end when Lash called Christianity an Alien Virus, among other things. Ian found that offensive as did several callers. Lash on the other hand, felt he was being tolerant. It seems by Lash's way of thinking, unless you are killing people for their religion, you are being tolerant. Ian did not see things that way and I must say that I don't either. "

Later that night on C2C proper, Art Bell's guest was Dr. Janis Amatuzio, sharing stories of death and passing over. As is the case most Saturdays, I missed this episode. A call for input on theusofe.com yielded this response from member circledancer, "I enjoyed this interview, She is down to earth and personable...all in all pretty good."

Sunday on the show, Stephan A. Schwartz was on to talk about water and consciousness. I only caught about an hour and a half of Schwartz, so I can't say for sure if he actually "used the schwartz" or not. That said, what I did hear was pretty good, albeit at times kind of bland. As was the case the last two weeks, Art carried the news from hour one over into the full show interview, talking about the story of the Russian girl with X-ray vision with Schwartz for the first half hour. I enjoyed that quite a bit and took it as another sign that Art is "in the zone" or damn near it, lately.

Monday was an odd affair, as The Noor had Howard West as the guest. The topic was The Watchers. It felt a bit disjointed as West was recounting a lot of the usual "ancient astronaut" type stuff and Noory seemed to want him to get to "the goods", but it felt like it never really got out of first gear.

Strangely, the interview ended @ 3:30 Eastern time, leaving an hour and a half of extra Coast time. I'm not sure what the reasoning behind that one was, as it didn't seem like West had done anything to warrant a booting. Noory then invoked "Operation Floating Noory" to bring in Hoagland to talk about the Robot Panda Head on the Moon. (I just re-read that last sentence and am beginning to wonder what I'm doing with my life.) Kind of scary that Noory felt that the Panda Head story warranted invoking the presumably wartime necessitated "floating schedule", but really, it's perfectly natural for Coast. Anyway, RCH spent a half hour updating us on the story, then the show went to standard Open Lines for the final hour.

As a special treat (or trick, perhaps) for those of you who couldn't picture it last week, we made this graphic to illustrate the "binnall Robot Panda Head Theory" (copyright BoA) :

Tuesday on Coast, the guest was Kevin Todeschi, the topic was Edgar Cayce. This was an excellent episode. Todeschi, despite being part of the Cayce machine nowadays, offered some great insight. I liked how he pointed out that Cayce was, much like modern psychics, often consulted for relationship advice, which runs counter to the romanticized version of Cayce we hear about today. Noory was spot on throughout the episode as well, busting out some Cayce fanboy gems like, "Did you know that Cayce ate two walnuts every day ?" George also earns kudos for bringing up the David Wilcock / Cayce reincarnated story from a couple of years ago, which Todeschi poo pooed as one of many re-incarnation claims. Very strong episode.

The guest on Wednesday night was space expert David Darling to talk about a host of alternative science stalwarts including evolution, space, and ET contact, among others. I was in and out of this episode, listening to the first hour or so of the interview. Some of it was pretty good, like when Noory pointed out that David's last name was "Darling" and that wasn't just an affectionate nickname he was calling him. Noory, you cad. But, for the most part, it was a tad too dry for my liking. Good stuff for the alternative science buffs, I'm sure, just not my cup of tea.

The ramp up to Halloween began on Thursday with Brad Steiger delivering the goods on poltergeists. Top notch episode and it stuns me that Steiger is 70 as he sounded quite youthful on the show. During the first hour, there was an interesting "behind the curtain" discussion on Steiger's beginnings in esoterica, the mistakes of his youthfulness in the field, and how he and his wife are "typecast" despite covering a plethora of esoteric topics. The poltergeist discussion was awesome, as expected, including some great stuff on the "evolution of a poltergeist" and fascinating material on the Bell Witch. Great episode, strong recommendation to those of you who missed it.

In total, a pretty decent week highlighted by the pillars of Todeschi and Steiger and building momentum to next week's strong offerings.

The Week That Is

We start out tonight with The Noor lording over Friday into Saturday Open Lines. No word on the pop-in yet, but don't be surprised if it is someone befitting of the Halloween season.

Ian's guest on The Ian Early Show will be Katherine Ramsland. The topic will be serial killers and haunted crime scenes. Sounds awesome and Ramsland sounds like a perfect "Ian" guest. Kudos go out two whomever is lining up the Ian guests, because they have been matching up quite well the last few months.

Saturday night on C2C proper, Art Bell has the always entertaining Derrel Sims, Alien Hunter, on the show. I raved about how great Sims was last Spring with Noory, so I expect the same level, if not better, of goodness here. I'll have to make a change from my usual routine and be sure to catch this episode, because I've a feeling it will be top notch.

Sunday night, C2C stalwarts Brendan Cook and Barbara McBeath return to Coast for the usual creepiness that is their EVPs. The trio of these two and Art is usually radio majic, so I expect another fun romp. I feel bad for Cook and McBeath, as EVPs are becoming a dime a dozen nowadays and their work just isn't as "groundbreaking" as it was a few years ago. That said, they are still among the best at what they do and their work really is the standard by which all creeps in graveyards with microphones are measured.

Monday, the frightfest continues as The Noor has Rosemary Ellen Guiley on to share her "strange stories" with us. I'm not sure what that encompasses and the C2C preview is decidedly vague on the subject as it just says she will "share an in-depth look at all things strange". Guiley knows what she is doing, so I expect a good to great episode here.

Tuesday is, of course, Halloween night. So, wake the pets and call the neighbors, because the annual C2C tradition continues with Ghost to Ghost 2006. You ought to know the routine by now, Art Bell, Open Lines, good ghost stories. Always one of the best episode of the year.

We kick off November on Wednesday with Joe McMoneagle covering remote viewing. Unlike some of the sideshow RV folks that gravitate towards C2C, McMoneagle is as close to the real deal as you can get. He usually brings some really strong material to the show, so I expect this to be a great episode.

Wrapping up the week is Ufologist Timothy Good on Thursday to talk about his new book "Need to Know: UFOs, the Military and Intelligence". Ironically, a mere two weeks after we had a request for him in our mailbag here in the binnall report. Sounds like Richard in Swansea, Wales, UK will be happy with this news. As I said a couple of weeks back, Good is a highly respected Ufologist whose book "Above Top Secret" is still referenced by many in the field today. I look forward to hearing what he brings to the table with regards to his new book. Should be strong.

Top to bottom this is an excellent week, on paper, for Coast. All the way from "Ian's Early Show" on Saturday evening to Thursday's episode with Tim Good, I'd be hard pressed to find a hole in this schedule. Colour me impressed and I am eagerly anticipating how it all shakes out.

Hi there. I am a college student in Rhode Island who has a (secret) fascination with all things esoteric. I really enjoy the program you put on, and I find them very informative, but down-to-earth as well. I think there is a good combination of skepticism and belief that is hard to find on the internet.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know how awesome your show is and to keep up the great work!

-Lauren

Thanks for the props on the audio series, Lauren. As I've said many a time, I'm an esoteric radio fan. I try to produce a show that I would dig if I weren't the one making it. (If that makes any sense.) I'm just glad that others share my sensibilities and have come along for the ride.

Re : being a "secret" esoteric buff

The field always needs new, young people, so I hope you don't stay secret for too long. I can understand wanting to keep your interests to yourself, though, as I've run afoul of many an ignorant fool in my travels who feel the need to "bust my chops" about the esoteric (of which they obviously know nothing about.) Only when more folks stand up and say they are interested in the esoteric will be throw off the shackles of Joe Six Pack and his cronies who live with their heads in the sand.

Letter #2 :

Tim,

Why haven't you written more feature articles at BoA ?

Chris in Eureka, California

Good question, Chris. It's really more a matter of time than anything else. If you look @ the Feature Article archive @ BoA, you'll notice that once BoA : Audio started, the Feature Articles kind of dropped off.

That said, we did just publish 2005's 12 Guests C2C Needs : Revisited @ BoA on Monday and we will be revealing our 2006 list of C2C worthy folks on this coming Monday, so we are keeping that annual tradition alive (going on 3 years now). Longtime Streamlink members will remember that the "Guests C2C Needs" was one of the original precursors to the birth of BoA.

I hope to write some more feature articles (or better yet, "After Dark" articles) in the near future, now that we are settling into a groove with the audio series this year.

This Week in C2C History

10.27.2005 : theusofe.com's baemark's favorite C2C guest, Kenneth C. Davis joined the show to shed light on a number of myths and legends. Here's my take on it from last year, "Davis had a wealth of information, some of it old hat, more of it quite novel. Davis seemed to know the quirky back story of every myth and legend and old wives tale in the book. Thankfully Noory didn't waste too much time on Halloween and was all over the map with various queries. It didn't really hurt the episode, though, as each answer Davis had was standalone good to great. " (tbr, 10.28.2005)

10.27.2004 : One of the greatest days in Boston history and C2C and their team of prognosticators and creeps were there to get their hands all over it, "Ghostbuster Mary Ann joined George at the top of the show in celebrating the World Series victory of the Boston Red Sox. Thanks to Mary Ann and all who helped lift the Curse of the Bambino." (c2c.com)

10.27.1999 : Further proof that celebrities love Coast to Coast AM, even Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman ... "Art's Guest for the second half of the hour is Jane Seymour. They discuss the film "Somewhere In Time". There has been discussion of a sequel being made. However, Jane says that she would rather they rereleased it as a feature film like they did with Star Wars. It was such a great romantic film! In Hong Kong, this film packed the theater for a year, when they had planned to play it for only two weeks."

End Notes

Thus we wrap up another edition of the binnall report. Hope we didn't scare you too bad.
