We're locked and loaded on a Saturday night as IP prepares to take the stage. Last week, Ian continued the storyline that someone, somewhere actually wants him to grow facial hair. An amused Punnett went so far as to challenge someone to "photoshop my picture" to show what he would look like with a beard. Silly Ian, tricks are for binnall.
In keeping with IP's request, we present to you a new weekly addition to SNP : "The Many Faces of Ian Punnett".
And now ... on with the show !
Yes ! The C2C website says that Ian will have Linda Godfrey on first hour to talk about weird animals. Sounds promising.
News Break before the show starts says there will probably not be any "rare or exotic" diseases coming out of Katrina. That sounds mildly disappointing. Also, Chief Justice Rehnquist has died.
Ian begins the show with some reflection on Katrina. Oh Jesus, he's having RCH on for a pop-in ! Historic !
Matt Savinar plug. No thanks, Ian. "What happens to us as a people ?", Ian asks. Damn you, Ian, you sound like you have a good idea of where to take this painful interview.
News : Death toll may start @ 10,000 in Louisiana alone. Yikes.
Disgust over rebuilding contracts going to corporate big wigs.
Ian plugs a book, unnamed, that says the weather is punishment from God or something.
Ian wants to know where the Red Cross is in New Orleans. Red Cross can't enter New Orleans against the orders of National Guard. Apparently, the National Guard wants Red Cross out in order to get folks out of the city.
Canada will send stuff to us. I like Canada. "You are a good neighbor", Ian says. Yes, he says Canadians are smarter than Americans. An unpopular sentiment that I will wholeheartedly agree with.
Something about laser magnets or something. This is confusing. Aiming sound, there we go. They're sending them to Katrina recovery. Why, I have no idea.
Mad Cow comes from Indian subcontinent, possibly. New theory, at least. Hmm, interesting. I'd like to hear more of that. Ugh. Human corpses along the Ganges. Somehow they may have been ground up and sent to Britain. Eek. Enough already, Ian, some people are snacking.
Nice, Ian quotes a Japanese financial astrologist. Something big on September 19th. Let's see if that materializes.
Ian references redneck Wade's wrong prediction from 2 weeks ago.
Throwback to renegade Doctor from last week, British journal says coffee in moderation may be good for you.
Ian makes a truly awful joke about mint chocolate ice cream that was fit for an episode of Golden Girls.

This Tuesday @ binnallofamerica.com, Lesley takes a look at the evolution of George Noory with "The Noory Factor", in Grey Matters. An amazingly thoughtful delve into how Noory has gone from folksy dude to rather cynical and at times angry man. Grey Matters, hard hitting, informative, and entertaining. Also, pop in to Lesley's blog for more good stuff : http://thedebrisfield.blogspot.com/

IP plugs After Dark. I wonder if he read my article.
E-mail re : the scream soundbite from last week
Large bird possibly. Uh oh, sounds like a thunderbird.
E-mail re: Man-Dog story
Wolf dog hybrid howls during scream soundbite.
E-mail re: common sightings of Man-Dog
Guy says lots of them are seen. Beast of Brey Road story. New species, claims the writer.
Nice segue to Linda Godfrey. Anomalous animals.
Linda breaks down the Brey Road Beast story.
Ian wants the difference between a werewolf and the Man-Dog. He's tying it in to the Ohio Scream.
Linda says Man-Dog is "classic" beast description. She says dogheaded men are often cited. Creepy description of the body. Legs shaped like dog legs. Weird. Large feet. She describes the prints.
Ian asks a great question : opposable thumb ? or paws ?
Linda says between a paw and a hand. No opposable thumb from what she can tell. They use paws as hands.
Ian wants first citation of this beast.
Linda says 1936. Wow. Witness didn't tell anyone until his death. Linda says the debate is between natural and supernatural.
Ian wants to delve into this issue more after the ...

Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" bumpers it up. Obvious choice, but excellent nonetheless. Nice, Ian gives props to Zevon. IP, you win me over every week. He claims RCH coming up soon. Hoagland is, I'm sure, chomping at the bit. So am I.
More plugging for Matt Savinar later tonight. I'll admit, I'm mildly interested.
First, Linda Godfrey will wrap it up re: Man-Dog.
Ian says it isn't a werewolf, but some kind of new species or paranormal thing. He points out that it is a regional thing.
Linda was reluctant to raise that issue at first, because there was no supernatural element at first. She says it is not a man who has changed into a wolf, despite many letters from people who seem to believe they change into wolves. Poor Linda.
Ian wants to know about the "Sounds of these Man-Dogs". Sounds like a new album from Noory and the Nighterrors.
Linda turns it into a plug for her book. Good for her. She's tying it into Bigfoot. She says Man-Dog doesn't make a sound. She says in 1936, the Man-Dog said "gadara".
Ian, and I, are freaked out by that. She says it has Biblical connotations, but too much to get into here.
She plugs her new book, "Hunting the American Werewolf". Good pop-in.
E-mail re: Psychological effects of hurricanes
Hurricane flu ? Never heard of it.
E-mail from William Straus (former C2C guest) : Katrina is part of the 4th turning. May be more of a national "mood changer" than 911.
E-mail from Dr. Fred Bell (former C2C guest, with IP no less) : Troposphere interference by HAARP. "Weather War", baby. Smells like an RCH segue. Ian quotes Bell's e-mail, "coronal hole". Yikes, clean it up, you two. Totally esoteric e-mail from Bell.
E-mail from Joan : Coast to Coast Singles. I'm scared. Yahoo group for single folks who love Coast to Coast. Ian says "hook up", what a perve.
He says "we will hook up ... in a strictly platonic way, of course, with RCH". Christ, Ian, thanks for the nightmares.

IP talks about how to donate to Katrina recovery. He talks about how the Red Cross was prevented from getting into New Orleans.
Ian brings in RCH and keeps calling him "RCH" which is more than a tad annoying.
Hoagland is on and congratulates Ian "for Saturday night". RCH has 1st hand info that Fed Ex was delivering medical supplies and they were hijacked. RCH cites Mayor Negin's desperate pleas. Hoagland's friend was stopped with a convoy of supplies but the authorities wouldn't let them in to help.
Ian wants to know who is responsible to accept help.
Hoagland says we have degenerated into a bureaucratic state. He says it is worse than the Soviet Union. No kidding. RCH says that the Nat. Guard showed up when the President did. He also rants about how they flew Bush over New Orleans in a helicopter, which was dangerous.
Hoags wants ham radios to confirm that there was jamming of key emergency radio signals in the area. He cites Bell's call to the show last night denying the rumour.
Ian can't keep up with Hoagland, who is fired up.
Hoagland talks about how ham operators are being kept out of the disaster, "for the first time in history". Excluded by the feds. Hoagland says "this smells to high heaven". Classic fired up Hoagland, good stuff.
Ian tries to draw this to a point. But RCH interrupts him, hilariously.
Hoagland says, "bottom line, a manufactured disaster". Ian says it may be a massive "CYA Operation" (Cover Your Ass).
Hoagland turns this into a Homeland Security bashing.
Ian agrees with his sentiment.
Hoagland says he was on the radio in England.
Ian says 50,000 body bags have been secured in New Orleans.
Hoagland says it is a national disgrace. He encourages everyone to write their Congressman. That'll help.
It sounds like Hoagland just hangs up there and Ian goes to the top of the hour break to end this week's SNP.
