Double pop in for tonight's SNP, first Dr. Henry Niman to talk about the bird flu pandemic. C2C says he'll be on "briefly", whatever that means. Then, James Chiles will be on to talk about New Orleans and the Jet Blue plane story from earlier in the week. The first guy I can't recall at all, but the second guy sounds vaguely familiar.

This week, we've gone inside the Octagon to find what may be the most dangerous "Faces of Punnett" so far. Ultimate Fighter Ian Punnett looks frightening, angry, and ready to pound you into a bloody pulp. Good luck.

The familiar C2C theme music cuts right through a Noory promo for Robert Felix, Ice Age guy, appearing on Tuesday. I like it already.

Punnett's intro just plain sucks. There's no way around it.

He's quick to push Joel Barker, inventor of the term "paradigm shift". Sounds like he is a futurist. Ian says he doesn't focus on the "scary side of the future".

Uh oh, Ian says Joel Barker will, for "the first time ever" talk about the "scary side". "He will express those things that terrify him." God damn, I'm sold, Ian. Kudos to you, sir.

Ian's talking about Hurricane Rita. Not much seems to have happened, compared to Katrina. Ian says the gas prices are still going up, despite less than expected damage to the oil machinery down in the Gulf.

Nice, Friday's off in Jackson County Schools in Kentucky. That rules.

News article about "blasting" hurricanes. Sounds like a debunking article, despite the stuff we hear on Coast. Ian offers this article as a dis to Scott Stephens ! (and by default Richard C. Hoagland ) Wow. Ian's bare knuckle brawling here.

Throwback to the guest who said tobacco was good for you with an article that debunks what he said. Geez, Ian is haterizing on Coast guests left and right.

Swiss testing migratory birds for avian flu. Ugh. Must be a segue to the bird flu pop in. He's reading a lengthy thing here as an intro. He throws some nice teaser questions heading into the first ...

Lesley has an outstanding and in-depth Grey Matters this week, with a lengthy look at "Exempt from Disclosure", the recent book by former government disinfo agent Richard Doty. Lesley has been all over this story from the beginning and her insights are top notch as usual. While you wait for that on Tuesday, check out her blog, The Debris Field :

END OF BREAK

Dr. Henry Niman is on now to talk about the avian flu. He and Ian share some laughs about how Ian can't pronounce things.

Ian asks what we have to fear from the bird flu and is it headed to the US ?

Niman says some birds died at a golf course in Toronto yesterday ... okay. No bird flu cases in the US right now. He says migratory birds are the problem now. Sounds like we're screwed.

Uh oh, he said it is in Mongolia. Yikes. He's going over bird migration patterns.

Ian wants to know how the "transmission is completed". Get your mind out of the gutter, Ian.

Niman is covering a lot of esoteric stuff here, numbers and letters and codes. Slow down, Niman ! He calls it a "pandemic in birds".

Ian still wants to know how it goes from birds to humans.

Niman is still talking "H5", "H1", "H3".

Yes ! Ian is reeling him in for specifics. Go Ian !

Niman says essentially from contaminated ground water from bird poop. There we go. He didn't say it as clearly as me, though.

Uh oh, he also says it's become air borne.

Ian asks how it goes airborne.

Niman says "from droppings". Ha ha, he said "droppings". He says it is "asymptomatic". In some location I didn't catch, zoo workers and children got bird flu. I think it was Indonesia, as he is giving more anecdotal evidence on bird flu in humans and that seems to be the "hot spot".

Ian's trying to ask a question, but Niman is rambling a tad with these stories. He says Indonesia has a lot of bird flu cases.

Ian finally gets a word in to go to ...

END OF BREAK

Ian's talking about the evolution of the bird flu and he wants Dr.Niman to extrapolate on that.

Niman somehow says 2 billion people could be infected.

Ian wants to know if it causes fatalities. Ah, that zoo story is from Jackarta (sp?)

Niman makes it sound pretty fatal.

Ian wants to know which birds are the ones we should watch out for. What a wuss.

Niman says Mallard ducks. Gulls, ducks and geese. Uh oh. He says if it's "human to human", then airplanes.

Ian wants to know when it will "gain traction" here.

Niman points out the outbreak in Indonesia. Ian disses Indonesia. Niman disagrees by pointing out the story of the birds who died on the golf course in Toronto on Friday.

Ian wants to keep track of this story. How Noory of him. He teases a Man Dog update, e-mail, and James Chiles after the ...

Khyron is back in the groove and rocking out some hardcore material over at Khyron.net. He's fallen off the MMOPRG wagon again, continued tracking Sci Fi Friday and determining the best, previewed the upcoming film "Saw 2", laid out the goods on Nintendo's funky new controller, and lots of other Khyronic material. And, of course, he's been putting out some fantastic "ghost files" since his return two weeks ago. Stop by BoA on Wednesday's for Khyron's "ghost files" and www.khyron.net for the esoteric stuffs of the man they call Khyron.

END OF BREAK

Ian calls out for guests. He doesn't want to be pitched. Wow. How callous.

E-mail re: Man Dog. Ian found the scream soundbite. Great (said with mock excitement). Drunk teenagers, I tells ya !

Ian reads some dude's Man Dog sighting.

E-mail re: owls. Creepy, creepy story. Wow. Good one.

E-mail re : the guy who cries when he hears a scary story.

Two creeps write in to say they cry too. Ugh.

E-mail re : people feeling that there is an earthquake coming. Claims of a "mass signal" coming to 'quake feelers.

E-mail re: Is Ian part cat or ferret ? Seriously. Wow. Good question.

Ian cites his photo and says he is a "man ferret". Nice one, Ian.

Ian abruptly introduces James Chiles. Ian asks him an inside joke.

Apparently Ian Punnett went to seminary with James Chiles's wife.

Ha ! Ian says he sees Chiles on the History Channel "almost as much as Hitler". Good one, Ian.

Ian asks Chiles about the Jet Blue story.

Chiles calls it "perfect TV". He points out that if the wheel wasn't 90 degrees, it would have probably not landed safely. He says it's happened 7 or 8 times before. Yikes.

Somehow he knows it kinda happened in November of 2002. I think he is one of only maybe 3 dozen people in the world who knew that. Kudos.

Ian says it looked like a shopping cart wheel. He's jokey tonight. He oddly says it looked like something amazing to be a part of.

Chiles says a big reason for the successful landing was the pilot's "taking his time" with the landing. He lays it out perfectly and makes an interesting case for that.

Ian wants to know what other American cities are "inviting disaster".

Chiles says the California area (earthquakes), NY and DC (terrorism), Montana (Super Volcano). Chiles says if you wait long enough, someone else will have to worry about it. Ha ha. This guy's great.

Ian's out of time here.

Good SNP tonight. I would have rather had more Chiles than Niman, but it was what it was.
