When news broke last week about cyclist Michael Landis testing positive for steroids, George Noory was fit to be tied. It is a little known fact that The Noor is a staunch hater of performance enhancing drugs. (Rumours persist throughout C2C HQ that Noory once scalded an intern who dared to drink coffee during his broadcast.)
So when Noory got the news of the scandal erupting throughout the sports world, he knew he had to step in and "save cycling".
Thus ... The Tour de Noor was created.
It began as a statement to the world that fair play and comraderie still had a place in the world of sports.
These ideals were quickly shattered once it became apparent that Sean David Morton would do anything to win, including knocking other riders off their bikes and an overabundance of grandstanding.
By the time it was all said and done, one man stood tall, representing the cunning and guile necessary to rise to the top of the heap. And, ironically, he reclaimed cycling for France. Yes, the first ever winner of the Tour de Noor : Louis Turi.
