What we know so far is that Kid Nation was filmed at Hoagland's palatial New Mexico ranch. Upon arriving at the ranch, the kids were informed that they were not actually there to "build a society", instead they were there to serve under Richard C. Hoagland as his child laborers. The premise of the show being, "Would they rise up against their oppressors or tow the line and serve RCH ?"

George Noory's role in the program was as the rarely seen "Big Brother" character, used to strike fear in the hearts of the kids and quash any potential mutiny against Sir Hoags, hence the original program's title "Noory Nation".
