| The esoteric underground has been confused and delighted over the last few months, as George Noory's Sci Fi Channel project has gone from promising, to passed on, to seemingly being buried at 11 PM next Wednesday night on Sci Fi (with no promotion, outside of The Noor's robust schilling over the last month or so).
However, my Hollywood sources inform me that there is more to meets the eye, when it comes to the apparent implosion of Noory's Sci Fi series. It turns out that almost immediately after filming the pilot for the show, Noory's handlers quickly brought the film over to CBS in hopes of landing The Noor a bigger gig ... successor to Bob Barker on "The Price is Right". Yes, utilizing Noory's folksy charm, unparalleled appeal to women over the age of 80, and his obsession with all things pre-1985, Noory's puppet masters convinced CBS that The Noor was the ideal man to handle the skinny microphone of the venerable game show. Sci Fi, outraged by this betrayal, quickly scrapped together the most embarassing moments of the Sci Fi pilot (see : Gary Busey) and scheduled it at this time, in hopes of scaring CBS into having second thoughts about The Noor as "Price is Right" host. |
