I'm not buying it. This whole vanishing bees, colony collapse disorder stuff? Nuh-uh. When word first broke that bees were jumping ship outta here, I was thrilled. Not in a long time had I heard such great news. After years of suffering at the barbs of these winged terrors--getting pumped full of venom in the torrent of a death-swarm--hope was finally in sight. My epic struggle was nearly over... ...yeah right. Only a couple weeks into May, I've already faced down more of the buggers than I care to say. So your bees are vanishing, huh? I think I might know where they went: my place. As you may be wondering by now, yes...there is a story to backup this tirade. But I must warn you, what follows is a tale of unspeakable horror. The past couple of weeks it seems there’s been a little spike of items about California UFO sightings; in the southern part of the state. These items about L.A. UFO sightings sparked memories of my experiences with UFOs in California. My mother saw a UFO in Los Angeles. I’ve written about this before; she was on the porch after dinner, and called us to come look at the spaceship. Everyone laughed and said “Yeah, sure mom” (a reaction I always find interesting) but I came out to take a look. By the time I did, the UFO was gone, but my mom was very excited. |
5.15.7 : A Glowing Sign on my Head ?
I am remembering one strange day when we went on break and she sat at a different table than everyone else and asked if I would join her. I did. After a few moments of sitting there, she decided to tell me what had happened to her the night before. She said that herself, her boyfriend and her baby had fallen asleep while watching TV on the couch. In the morning they had all woken up in their beds. ...
What could I say? I remember saying that it sounded really strange. I also remember thinking that they could have been abducted by aliens, but that I didn’t say that. Basically I told her that I had no clue how that happened.
Even years later and after all the thinking and writing I have done about ufos, I would be unsure of what to say to her.
Sometimes I picture Skepticus Humanus, sitting at his/her computer, bug-eyed and leery; perhaps in their mid-twenties, a bit on the chubby side, smart but neurotic, interested in all things odd, but not ready to accept anyone else’s lame attempt to explain the universe, because that just leaves nothing for them to do. They don’t work, in fact, they sit in front of the computer all…day…long. They have an "I WANT TO BELIEVE" poster rolled up in the corner somewhere. They may even have experienced something of the paranormal variety but once they opened their mouths, they were ridiculed and so, the abused becomes the abuser. This is the Skepticus Humanus, the new (or old…depending on the time of your initiation to the www), skeptic on the block. Tina Sena's Blog
UFOs will always have a place in popular human consciousness. In turn, Ufology will always have some necessity. Whether or not Ufology will (ever) have credibility, well, that's another issue entirely. |
